If you want to start a business, that is a noble goal, and I wholeheartedly support you in that endeavour. Being able to set your own hours, manage your schedule, and follow your passion is a remarkable privilege.

However, starting a business always requires preparation, so you need to take a few steps to be well-prepared before you're ready to leave your day job and start earning a living from your business.

I'll outline crucial steps in this article that you shouldn't skip as you get ready to start your future company.

  1. Evaluate your motives
Simply knowing why you want to start a business is the first step.

Nothing is more frustrating than devoting time and resources to a project only to discover a few months or years later that this is not what we wanted to do with our lives. The objective is to establish a company that you will adore and be eager to put your time and effort into expanding.

Can I see myself dedicating my life to this company?
I did this before starting my blog and discovered that my goals were to do the following with it:

What spurred you to launch your company? Spend some time outlining your goals.

  1. Verify your business concept
To want to start a business is one thing, but to have a business opportunity is quite another.

You must evaluate the potential of your business idea in an honest and open manner.

Before I even started advertising my services, there was a demand for time management coaching on my end. Therefore, I was aware that I had a good business opportunity and that there was a market ready to pay for this kind of service before I even began.

Discuss your idea with those around you, conduct market research, conduct tests, and ask yourself probing questions like:

Does my proposal fill a need?
Is the thing I want to offer in demand?
Does the contest already include my concept?
Do those around me and my advisors support and encourage me to move forward with my idea?
You can read this article on the Quebec business portal for more details on how to validate your idea.

  1. Create your plan.
Even though you won't yet have all the answers, it's still critical to have at least some planning and direction.

Just begin formulating an action plan and thinking about your strategy without necessarily creating a comprehensive business plan.

Keep in mind things like:

your intended market
Your line of goods and services
spending limit
Your financial plan
your advertising approach
Your network of contacts, etc.
What plan do you have? Create an action plan to move you in the right direction and start working on it.

  1. Acquire the required qualifications and skills
Take the time to look for the skills and credentials required to be effective and credible if you are starting a new endeavour outside of your professional training.

For instance, if you have spent your entire career in the transportation sector and want to become an independent mortgage broker, you must first obtain professional accreditation.
