My Travel Experience #3: Final Day In My Maternal Village And My Travel To My Husband's Village
The day was fast running out. I had already told everyone that I will go to my husband's village on Friday being January 3ed. The reason being that my family will be joining my parents in-law to their own religious Assembly which we had missed as a result of our relocation to our new city of residence. We had planned attending on February but learning that my parents in-law will be attending on that day, we decided to join them.
However, my brother had promised to give me rice that I will go with. But the rice is still raw, just harvested from the farm and needed to be perboilled. It is some processes to be ready and I needed to assist so that it can be a reality. First, we will need to fetch bamboo sticks as firewood for the rice. My elder sister asked that we go and get it instead of paying people to get them for us. She assured me that the place isn't far and that we won't carry much. So, we went very early on Wednesday. Yes, we did the calculation that as soon as we come back from fetching the bamboo sticks, we can then go out to hire cooking drum and stand that will be used.
That evening, we went in search for the cooking drum. My sister needed a small drum that could contain one bag of unpwrboiled rice. What the majority has is the big one and so we went round the village. In the end, we couldn't get anyone.that was how we left off cooking the rice. Yes, it takes a minimum of 2 days to be ready and be taken to the mill. Since there is dry season, the sun can dry it in a day such that by Thursday, it would have been ready. But my brother told us to to worry, that I can take the little one that us available.
The process of getting that rice ready includes the following
- Getting the bamboo sticks
- Getting the drum ready for those that doesn't have theirs like us
- Fetching water
- Watching the rice to remove chaff
- Perboilling it
- Cooking it in the following morning
- Sun-drying it
- Taking it to the mill and milling it
- It's ready at this point.
But I wasn't involved in all these again but I was given from the one already milled. We had been cooking and eating from it since we came back.i accepted and then was able to upturn the one they had in hopes that they will process another one. At least, they have gotten the firewood to use for it which is the hardest thing.

The next day, we got a palm wine seller and by brother booked it. As soon as the palm wine returned, we set table outside with my brother to drink the wine. Everyone came out and others who were visitors came to join us.

Next on that day was to prepare food. It was rice . We boiled white rice since we already had stew at home. My nieces did the preparation while my sister and I was peeling melon after drinking the palm wine. We waited to use it and prepare soup in the afternoon or whatever we will prepare the soup. That way, it will be easier.

We ate after food was ready. My brother was also busy recovering visitors. We hosted and chatted for a while before going in. We took our shower and then went out to continue visiting people. I packed my bag as soon as we returned so as to be easier for me in the morning.

In the morning, I joined my sister who wanted to go to the market to sale. That was all about my travel experience to my own village. Then, the next update will be my experience in my husband's village, with my in-laws. See you in my next update.
