ANALYSIS ON THE CHELSEA VS SPURS MATCH
Greetings everyone,
Last night we saw an opportunity for two great teams who kind of shared the same fate of falling from grace to grass on the premier league standings to prove their worth on the pitch at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. This match had lots of expectation from supporters of both teams. My initial assumption was that it was going to be a tough match between these 2 sides since both managers seem to have something to prove.
On one hand was Thomas Tuchel, who just arrived with the blues and has just one premier league under his belt. Certainly, he needs to make a mark by winning against one of the best football managers the world has ever seen.

On the other hand was Jose Mourinho, who has made some great changes in the gameplay of Tottenham Hotspurs this season. He even managed to land on top of the table a few weeks ago but since then has had terrible lack in his subsequent matches, losing his last two premier league matches.

As soon as the match started, anticipation was over and the real match had began. Within the first minute of the game, Chelsea made the first attempt towards goal with a delightful cross that found the head of Timo Werner which was knuckled towards the top left corner but barely missed it. To me, it was a threat Spurs should have taken seriously pretty early in the game and shouldn't have afforded many chances to the blues.
The first half was pretty much dominated by Chelsea. The reason was simple. They were more comfortable with the ball, played with much focus and had a strong leadership. This made the passes well connected and their movements were done with precision. I think it was only a matter of time before they found the net.

Watching the match at home
Spurs were lacking these elements Chelsea had on the pictch ; focus, leadership and understanding. The forward momentum was a bit chaotic and it was almost as if they were too desperate to win the game. I don't know what Mourinho told them but they were too eager to score a goal making their counter attacks quite fruitless.
Typical example of Spurs' desperation was when Eric Dier fell to the ground and fouled Werner in the 18 yard box causing a penalty. It is the defender's duty to stay on his feet no matter what but once he lost his grounds, there was no need for him to keep turning around since Werner couldn't even score from that spot if he won the ball. This ended with Chelsea winning the penalty which brought about the only goal in the game.
Hudson-Odoi was very instrumental in the good gameplay of Chelsea on this occasion. This is because he took control of the wings of the opposition and commanded that area. The least tackle on him resulted in a foul and he delivered some sweet crosses and through balls here and there.

The second half started in a similar fashion as that of the first half. Chelsea enjoyed the bulk of possession once again and made some pretty good forward momentum runs towards the opposition's end zone. Mason Mount should have increased the lead against Spurs but upon several attempts, could not find the back of the net.

Watching the second half of the game
It wasn't until the last fifteen minutes of the game that I saw Tottenham Hotspurs in action and took control of the game with Lamella making some strong moves towards Chelsea's post.
Pullisic came in and made some strong runs towards delivering an extra goal to help solidify Chelsea's win. All efforts ended in vain but Chelsea was clearly the better side. Werner seems to be improving in these recent matches than before with some pretty good touches.
I think every coach will like the zeal with which he plays with and his determination to keep the ball moving forward. Overall, this is going to make the most difference. I wanted to see Hudson-Odoi score a goal due to his contributions but it simply was not meant to be.
Chelsea thoroughly deserved to win and I wish Spurs the best of luck in their subsequent matches.
Thank you for your attention.
I thought it could be a tough, balanced game for both London teams, but Chelsea showed a more cohesive playing. In the end, I think that's what gave the Blues the victory.
Great analysis, @njaywan.
By the way, do you have any idea when Football Fan Letter Contest results will be shown?
I feel the new coach Chelsea have now is boosting the morale of the team. But they can never be better than Man Utd, still GGMU
