Gunci, Sawang, North Aceh

On Sunday, 4 January 2026, volunteers from Pemuda Gigeh carried out a humanitarian activity in the form of distributing aid to communities affected by flash floods in Gunci Village, Sawang District. The activity aimed to deliver some basic necessities and several pieces of wearable clothing. All the funds and wearable clothing were the result of donations from the community in various regions, even from outside Aceh, which they had previously entrusted to the Gigeh Youth volunteers.

It should be noted that Pemuda Gigeh is one of the volunteer communities that we have recently established, and the majority of its members are Steemians who are active on the Steemit platform. Therefore, through this collaboration and social awareness, we are taking steps to lend a helping hand to the community and our brothers and sisters who have been affected by this disaster. Interestingly, the volunteer members themselves are among the victims of flash floods, though not severely affected. This is not the first such initiative; the distribution of aid is the second phase, following the previous effort by the Pemuda Gigeh volunteers who also distributed aid to Langkahan, North Aceh, several weeks ago.

This Sunday (4 January 2026), the volunteer team set off again for Gunci Village in Sawang District, North Aceh, using one L300 pick-up truck. All 11 members of the Pemuda Gigeh volunteer group participated. Among the volunteers who joined the trip were myself, @walictd, my friend @cymolan, our senior @muzack1, and fellow Steemians such as @waliyul, @tioikhsan01, @daffateuku, @teukualdi, @alfarisy, Haikal, Mustawa (as the driver), and T. Ridwan. The volunteers were highly motivated to go, driven by a sense of camaraderie and a strong sense of social responsibility.

Our journey there began around 10 a.m. Upon arriving at Gunci Village, we immediately headed to the location of the flash flood, specifically in Lhok Pungki Hamlet. After seeing that the hamlet had been completely destroyed, leaving not a single house standing, we then looked at the condition of the evacuation site. We interviewed people who had visited Lhok Pungki Hamlet to gather information from local residents. They reported that one hamlet in Lhok Pungki had been completely wiped out by the flash flood. The residents' houses were severely damaged, with nothing left but mud and pieces of wood, forcing the entire population of the hamlet to evacuate to other, safer hamlets.

Until then, refugee volunteers from Lhok Pungki Hamlet were known to have chosen to evacuate to the neighbouring hamlet of Paya Rubek. The number of households reached 85 families who had evacuated. Therefore, the Gigeh Youth volunteers immediately went to the evacuation site to deliver the aid they had brought. It is hoped that the distributed aid will help alleviate the burden on the victims, particularly in meeting their daily needs following the disaster.

When delivering aid, volunteers also conducted direct assessments of the evacuation conditions, accompanied by village officials, in order to interact with the community and listen to their complaints and urgent needs. From the results of our interactions, it is clear that much attention and further assistance is still needed, both in terms of logistics and recovery efforts, such as providing adequate housing for residents.

With activities such as this, Pemuda Gigeh sincerely hopes to continue being a humanitarian and social solidarity movement. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the entire community and donors who have entrusted us with their assistance. We hope that what has been distributed will be beneficial and become a good deed for all of us.
