At the end of the first film, the powerful dark magician Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). But, fulfilling his threat, Grindelwald escaped into custody and has devoted himself to gathering followers, most unprepared for his true agenda: to raise sorcerers of pure blood to rule all non-magical beings.

In an effort to thwart Grindelwald's plans, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) recruits his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that await him. The lines are drawn while testing love and loyalty, even among true friends and family, in a magical world increasingly divided.
