Venice is a city in northeastern Italy, a city where canals are the main roads.

The Carnival of Venice (Italian: Carnevale di Venezia) is an annual festival held in Venice, Italy. The carnival ends with the Christian celebration of Lent, forty days before Easter. People use to wear Venetian masquerade masks and traditional capes or gowns during this event.

Historically the masks have been used on many other occasions in the past, usually as a device for hiding the wearer's identity and social status.

I am bringing you some pictures from a friend who enjoyed this festivity, I decided to share these spectacular pictures and enjoy together, and maybe it will help you choose your next destination.

Bauta:
The word bauta refers not just to a mask, but to the entire outfit, worn indifferently by men and women. The bauta was one of the most popular costumes of the Old Carnival, especially in the eighteenth century, and remained in vogue well into the modern Carnival.

Colombina:
The sweetheart of Arlecchino, Colombina (also known as Arlecchina), is not a true mask, as the Servetta wears her/his own face or, more rarely, a half-mask, only assuming the costume and dialect of the region she/he chooses to represent.
