Beautiful places of the planet: Rouen

Rouen is famous for its winding old streets and picturesque houses, sights of the Middle Ages and the modern era, Gothic architecture and the incredible cathedral that inspired Monet.

Cathedrale Notre-Dame.

The height of the Rouen Cathedral is 151 meters. The architecture of the temple made a strong impression on the artist K. Monet, who created a series of paintings dedicated to the Cathedral.

Gros-Horloge.

The large clock of Rouen looks luxurious and works even in spite of its venerable age, which goes back several centuries.

Tour Jeanne-d’Arc.

In fact, in Rouen there were two towers associated with the name of the national heroine Jeanne-d’Arc. One of them, in which Jeanne was really held in captivity, was destroyed, and now you can't even see the surviving Foundation.

Abbaye Saint-Ouen.

Part of the Church building is decorated with medallions depicting scenes from the life of St. Odon. In the Church there are eleven chapels, and next to the bell tower, whose height is more than 80 meters.

Palais de justice de Rouen.

The lace appearance of the Palace was conceived and embodied by the architects Roland de Roux and Roger Angot. The architects decorated the Palace with elegant turrets and spires, figures of chimeras, gargoyles, and other sculptural and relief images.

Place du Vieux-Marche.

On the square of Vieux-Marche was burned the legendary Jeanne-d’Arc . Many of the buildings surrounding this place are somehow connected with her name.

Museum Le Sec de Tournelles.

In the Middle ages Rouen is famous for its forged products. Nowadays, the products of the Rouen blacksmiths are kept in the Museum of Le Sec de Tournel. It collected more than twelve thousand exhibits that were created from III to XIX century.

Pont Gustave-Flaubert.

The supporting columns of the bridge rise above the Wall by 91 meters, the length of the spans is more than 1 km.

Church of St. Jeanne-d’Arc.

The Church of St. Jeanne-d’Arc is built in a modern manner using asymmetric architectural forms and interesting engineering solutions.

Church of Saint-Maclou.

Spires reminiscent of flame stretching to the heavens. The Church was built in the period of 1437-1521 on the voluntary donations of patrons.
