Traveling to India for the 1st time - How to spend 17 days in India (Part 1)
India has never been in my bucket list of countries to visit but last year, my husband and my in laws decided to visit India after more than 10 years not visiting my late father-in-law’s homeland. After 6 months of planning, we started our journey to New Delhi from 1st December till 18th December 2017. My longest holiday so far..lols!
So, I am going to share about my first India trip, which we covered more on the Northern side of India. Please bear with me because there will be a lot of photos and most of it are important Sikh Temples in India.
Day 1: Kuala Lumpur - Bangkok
From Kuala Lumpur, we took Thai Smile Airline early morning flight to Bangkok and stayed one night in Bangkok. Want to know how to enjoy Bangkok in one day? Click here.
Day 2: Bangkok - New Delhi
On the 2nd of December, we took Thai Airways first flight at 7.35am and reached Indira Gandhi International Airport at 10.35am local time. The cold winter and smog welcome us once we exit the airport. We proceeded to the parking area where our 2 drivers were waiting for our arrival.
We then proceeded to check-in at Hilton Garden Inn, in Saket area in New Delhi. We chose this hotel because it is attached to DLF Place Mall (easy for us to find food and some groceries if needed), next to Select Citywalk Mall and near to other major attractions in New Delhi. Luckily we don't have to wait too long to get our room ready.
After that, we had our 1st Indian meal in the food court inside the mall. I had Aloo Tikki Chaat, which is stuffed potato patties with plain yogurt and chutney. The combination of spicy, tangy, sweet and savory taste of the Aloo Tikki was so yummy!! Oh yeah.. I tried the Almond-Pistachio milk too.. the taste was so good and the Indians believe that Almond-Pistachio Milk is the most nutritious drinks for all age group.. love it!
Auto-rickshaw ride in New Delhi
Once our tummy is full, its time to get local sim cards. Too bad there is no shop selling sim card in the mall.
So, hubby and I have to take auto-rickshaw to nearby neighbourhood which they called Block H and get our sim cards there.
The auto-rickshaw ride was way crazier than the tuk-tuk ride in Bangkok!! I'm glad that we reached Block H and returned to hotel safely.. phewww!!
In the evening, we strolled along the courtyard in front of the mall and got to enjoy the cool winter breeze and the Christmas decorations at the garden. We also had our Cha (Masala Tea).. perfect for the cold weather.
For dinner, we headed to Dhaba Restaurant which serves Northern Indian cuisine. The taste is so damn good and the price is in the middle range. Staff was helpful and food served was quite fast! We totally enjoyed our 1st dinner in New Delhi.
After dinner, once again we went for a walk at the courtyard and observing the local people doing their social activities. The night was getting colder but we really enjoyed it. I can't wait to explore New Delhi the next day!
That's about it for our 1st day in India.. will post about the whole trip in the next post!
Till then, enjoy your weekend!

Thank you for the sharing and guide connie.
Hehe..thanks for taking your time to read my post @bboyady 😄
Always my pleasure. You welcome
I guess you had a face mask on due to the smog. Did you use ear plugs when you were there? Because we're so used to peace and quiet on the road, the incessant honking can drive any reasonably sane person mad. 😄
You are right.. the last thing I want is to get my asthma attack! The smog was pretty bad when we arrive. OMG!! I don't understand why they honk so much... its like never ending honking from point A to point B!
But, other than the honking, the crazy traffic jam and the rubbish.. i actually enjoyed the trip! hehe..
It's good time to visit in December because it is winter and weather is cooler; other times of the year, the heat will be unbearable especially during summer. Unfortunately, fog/smog will also heighten during winter season.
Yeah, it's mind-boggling why they like honking so much. It's as though they're giving a warning, telling others "I am coming, get out of my way". 😆
Yes, India as a whole is a warmth and welcoming country. Not forgetting, food is absolutely delish and if you love shopping, you'll be carting loads of clothes home!
Looking forward to read the continuation of your India trip! 😊
Konpom bnyk ensom boys n pretty gurls tu kan snaa
haha! ya.. stylo2 lagi.. especially in delhi lah..
Many years ago, my company wanted to arrange a company trip to India. That was in May, I think. Immediately upon hearing the plan, my Indian friend said DON'T GO in summer or you will freaking regret it LOL. Thankx for sharing your trip @connie1018
Lols!! Yeah.. even my husband said that he won't bring me to India during the summer coz its freaking hot!! Weather in early December is just nice.. not too cold.. 😊
