Land of the Rising Sun Collection

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

I took a wee trip to Japan and shot some pics. All are just from my iphone, nothing fancy, simply edited in iphoto to my personal taste.

I posted one of the photos on a whim to r/pics on reddit and got some wonderful attention and encouragement so I decided to make this album for those who showed interest. None of the pics are watermarked or copy-write and anybody is welcome to take them and use them for any of their pleasures or profit. Enjoy.

Japanese Natural plater wall in the Gion area of Kyoto.

Stunning red natural plaster wall in Kyoto tea house area.

IMG_1834.jpg
Final pic of a Japanese natural plaster wall. It's worth noting that yes I'm just posting pics of walls but these are some of the finest examples of natural plaster work in the world.

Masamoto castle in fog. This is a picture of a picture but I thought it was stunning.

IMG_E1847.jpg
Fushimi Inara Shrine. These are called Torii Gates and there are thousands of them covering a path up a mountain in Kyoto.

IMG_E1848.jpg
Getting up early and hiking higher up the mountain is worth it to avoid the crowds.

Peaceful mountain path.

This is the pic that got some attention on reddit. Wishing that garbage can wasn't there but it kinda of blends in right ? No :(

IMG_E1870.jpg
This is the Nehan-Zu painting depicting the Buddha on his death bed. It's one of the largest of it's kind on earth and hung for 3 days only in March 2018 in the Tofukuji Temple in Kyoto. We stumbled upon this by accident really and was blown away - it is huge and in one of the most stunning temples Kyoto. The last time it was displayed was 2003.

Mount Asama near Karuizawa.

IMG_E1884.jpg
Mount Asama on a beautiful spring day. It erupted recently in 2009 with pretty much no warning. Good times.

IMG_E1889.jpg
Masamoto Castle.

IMG_E1891.jpg
Masamoto Castle was spared from bombing in WW2 and was actually used as a school at that time. It's the oldest and best preserved original castle in Japan.

IMG_E1894.jpg
Masamoto Castle was strictly used for battle and people only lived inside during times of war.

Thanks for viewing. If you or anybody would like original high resolution copies of these pics for free please pm me.

We are also in Japan for another month, mostly in Tokyo. If anybody has any picture requests send them my way and I'd have a good time trying to find the place and make it happen.

Enjoy yourself
