오늘 이야기는 츄라우미수족관에 대한 내용이예요. 전문은 아트래블 7월호에서 만나볼 수 있어요.

Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium is only one which succeed in whale shark species. You can see 3 whale shark here. As soon as Okinawa is decided for our travel destination, we all said "Churaumi!"

유일하게 고래상어 번식에 성공한 츄라우미수족관(沖縄美ら海水族館)은 거대한 고래상어 3마리의 유영을 볼 수 있는 곳이다. 여행지로 오키나와가 정해지고 어디를 가고 싶냐고 물었을 때 우리 모두 같은 대답을 했었다. 츄라우미수족관!

We could see many people as we arrived the Churaumi Aquarium where is located in 5 minutes away by car from Hukugi street. We didn't know that Okinawa had a lot of people like this. We touched star fishes and watched dacing jellyfish. Finally, we arrived a water tank that has whale sharks. The water tank was huge but looks small because of big size of whale sharks. I saw slow swimming motion of whale sharks. We realized our wish.

일단 후쿠기 가로수길에서 자동차로 5분 거리에 있는 츄라우미 수족관에 도착하자마자 보이는 건 수많은 사람들이다. 오키나와에 이렇게 많은 사람들이 있었던가 싶을 정도로. 직접 불가사리를 만지고 영롱한 해파리의 춤도 바라보며 흘러가듯 구경하니 드디어 나타난 고래상어의 수조. 그리고 저기 그 녀석들이다! 압도적인 크기에 수조가 작진 않을지 걱정될 정도. 느릿느릿 헤엄치는 고래상어의 움직임을 하나도 빼지 않고 눈에 담는다. 아, 소원 풀었어, 풀었어.

I can't sure whether unhappiness or good fortune for the fact that the aquarium succeed in whale shark. Because of success of it, opposing opinion of whale shark in water tank waned. Anyway I could see huge fin of whale shark through water tank. However, I felt uncomfortable. We all dream wide world but reality is just square table. We don't know our paycheck is whether prizr or punishment, but we live tiredly for it like whale sharks. Maybe whale sharks want to swim inder the sea. Okinawa ocean over the water tank is really far. I think.

불행인지 다행인지 고래상어 번식에 최초로 성공한 이후로 고래상어 사육에 대한 반대 여론이 잦아졌다고 한다. 덕분에 나는 닿을 듯한 고래상어의 거대한 지느러미를 유리 벽 너머 만져보고 감탄할 수 있다. 하지만 마음 한편, 뭔가 안타깝고 불편한 생각이 스멀스멀 올라왔다. 늘 넓은 세상을 꿈꾸지만 현실은 네모난 책상 앞에 앉아 월급이라는 상인지 벌인지 모를 미끼를 위해 고달프게 살고 있는 우리 모습과 오버랩됐기 때문일까. 당연히 고래상어 너도 언젠가 자유롭게 바다로 나가 헤엄치길 바라고 있을지 몰라. 수조 너머에 있는 오키나와 바다가 한참 멀다.
