Visiting the ruins at Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico. - Almost heaven.
Tulum is pre-Columbian Mayan walled city in Mexico, it may not be the most talked about Mayan heritage site. But I can assure you, if you want to see some stunning ruins next to beautiful beaches without a million tourists or people trying to sell you items, Tulum is the place to go.
I had been staying with friends in Cancun, maybe partying a little more than I should. After the glitter and drinking had warn off I really wanted to see some sights, and not just any, some by the beach! Luckily a mexican girl I had met was more than happy to take me there and help along the way. (As much as I want to learn, I don't know any spanish, or other indigenous languages).
But first some food! As we arrived in Tulum (the town) we decided to get some food. I was told this was not the best example, but trust me... it was tasty.
A photo of standing quite far back, I apologise for my skills as a photographer. These are all taken on my phone as I forgot my camera DOH!
It's amazing after this long, the amazing level of detail that is still present on the buildings.
An animal, completely oblivious, most likely worrying about food. (I have forgot the name of this animal, can anyone in the comments remind me?)
Another stunning shot of the ruins.
The ruins are right by the beach, they had boats waiting to take people out to go snorkelling which interested me a lot for one reason. I come from Australia and have had the opportunity to dive on one of the great wonders of the world, the great barrier reef. The largest coral cay in the world, and here in Mexico is the second largest.
I only stayed for a day, but I thought to myself... If I could do this every day, I wouldn't have to do anything more, it was perfect.
First photo is from here, the rest are taken by myself.
Gorgeous! Breathtaking! Added to my bucket list!
Upvoted and I'm following you now!
