South Lípez a desert of colours and silence

in #travel15 days ago

Our motorcycle road trip through South America led us to revisit the Sud Lípez, located in the far southwest of Bolivia. It is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular and otherworldly regions on the South American continent. At over 4,000 metres above sea level, this remote territory is part of the Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve and concentrates some of the most photogenic landscapes in the world. Here, silence is absolute, the wind reigns supreme and the light gives the mountains, lagoons and deserts an uncommon intensity. The colours change at every kilometre. My previous visit was 25 years ago, and I was afraid to find a place overwhelmed by tourism and stripped of its soul. There are indeed more visitors than before, but not only is it not massive, they also all travel with agencies and visit the same places. Given the size of the Sud Lípez, it is easy to get off the beaten track.
