What to see in Lisbon? THE BEST PLACES TO GO!!

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Lisbon is a wonderful place that has many beautiful places to visit. As a proud Portuguese I am, I bring you those who in my opinion are the most beautiful places to visit in the Portuguese capital.

BELÉM

The passage through Belém is essential because it is one of the "most Portuguese" parts of Lisbon. There are 4 places I recommend to visit in Belém:

  • JERÓNIMOS MONASTERY

This monument was built in 1502, and reflects the time of the discoveries.

  • BELÉM TOWER

This tower was built to guard the port of Lisbon and protect the city, and was lated declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

  • STANDARD OF THE DISCOVERIES

It is a well-known monument, mainly for its belvedere. When we go up to the belvedere we can observe a beautiful landscape. This monument was built to honor all the Portuguese who gave their contribution to the discoveries.

  • PASTELS OF BELÉM

I will show you now one of the most visited places in Belem, here are made and sold the typical pastels of Belem. This is where the only true recipe for these pastries was created, and it is also the only place where they are sold. I strongly recommend stopping here to have a coffee and eat some pastels of Belem.

AUGUSTA STREET

Known by some as Baixa Pombalina, it is one of the most beautiful streets in Lisbon. In this street we can find street artists with great talent, who provide us with very good moments.

ARCH OF AUGUSTA STREET

At the beginning of Augusta Street is this very beautiful arch, with a very beautiful viewpoint, (just up the arch).

TERREIRO DO PAÇO

This is one of the most well-known squares in Portugal, and is one of the almost obligatory stops when visiting Lisbon. As a fan of photography, I recommend everyone who comes to take some photos at sunset from here, it's fascinating!!

SANTA JUSTA ELEVATOR

Along Augusta Street, when we are going towards Terreiro do Paço- Rossio, we can see in one of the streets on the left this very beautiful elevator. I would definitely recommend walking in this elevator, because it is very different from all the others I've ever walked in.

ROSSIO

As we walk down Rua Augusta all the way to the end, we go to a square called Rossio. We can find in this square, a typical Portuguese store, called "The Fantastic World of Portuguese Sardine", it is very beautiful.

ASCENSOR DA GLÓRIA

In Lisbon there are very beautiful and old transports, and one of them is the Ascensor. Of all the Lisbon lifts, this is my favorite, so I recommend that you go up to Ascensor da Glória and enjoy this little trip.

ELECTRIC 28

The 28th electric is the most sought after by tourists. Getting into this little old electric is an adventure from start to finish, I love it! There's only one problem ... the time we have to wait to walk on it, because the queues are huge!!

VIEWPOINT OF SÃO PEDRO DE ALCÂNTARA

As we climbed the Ascensor da Glória we came to a very beautiful place, with a spectacular view. This is one of my favorite places in Lisbon, I recommend it to everyone.

EDUARDO VII PARK

This park is well known for its belvedere, from it we can see all the park, the roundabout Marquês de Pombal and Avenida da Liberdade.

 CHIADO

Still in the historical part of Lisbon, we have Chiado. Here you can’t miss the photo next to the statue of Fernando Pessoa and also the visit to the place where he drank his coffee, "A Brasileira". Still in the Chiado I recommend the passage in the Armazéns of the Chiado that is a commercial center very different from the habitual one.

SAO JORGE’S CASTLE

I personally have never visited this castle, but my family and friends had told me that it is a very beautiful castle and it is worth going to see it.

ALFAMA

Alfama is one of Lisbon's popular neighborhoods, and that’s what I like the most. Here we can find many Houses of Fado and see typical houses of the zone.

VIEWPOINT OF THE DOORS OF THE SUN

In the visit to Alfama you can’t miss this view. From this viewpoint we can see the Castle of St. George, the National Pantheon (monument where they are that were important to buried Portugal), and the whole of Alfama.

NATION’S PARK

In the "newer" part of Lisbon I leave you here the Parque das Nações, which, as the name indicates, has the flags of all Nations. This park is very nice, and has a nice view of the Rio Tejo.

ORIENTE STATION

There is not much to say about this station, just that it is very beautiful. I recommend you go there.

CRISTO REI

Already on the other side of the river we have the Cristo Rei, who offers us a complete view to Lisbon, do not want to miss it.

And this is it, I hope you liked this post, because most of all I loved writing it.

LISBON IS REALLY BEAUTIFUL!!!

A big hug to everyone, see you soon.
