Places You Should Avoid -Hurricane Irma Leaves Trail of Destruction

Hurricane Irma is one of the strongest storms in the history and has broken records for accumulated cyclone energy. This deadly hurricane has caused major damage and here are the places that have felt the destruction.

Antigua and Barbuda

The hurricane first hit these islands. Sky news, news reporter said that about half of the islands 1,800 people were left homeless and 90% of the buildings there were destroyed. The Prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda Gaston Browne reported that carnage in Barbuda is unprecedented.

St Martin Anguilla and St Barts

The Dutch side of the island experienced catastrophic damage, and one person was killed. Several house tops were damaged, and the hotels are underwater. The infrastructure on the Dutch side of the island experienced large scale destruction, and an undisclosed number of houses and businesses were destroyed. Four people were killed by the raging storms on the French side of St. Martin, and many houses were destroyed in the area. Even worse the people there have been left without running water, and power cables were destroyed leaving people in cold and darkness.

US Virgin Islands

A large scale of damage has been recorded that was caused by the hurricane. Three deaths were reported in the St Thomas and St John districts. The roads were left in accessible, but authorities are working on clearing the roads and repairing the damaged sections.

Puerto Rico

According to news reporters, Puerto Rico experienced winds of 100mph have destroyed the infrastructure, leaving close to one million people without power and about 50,000 don’t have access to clean drinking water. Perto Rico is facing a major economic crisis that led to funding and staffing cuts, and the power supply may not be restored for several months.
Cuba

20 people were reported dead by September 8, 2017, after Irma made landfall in Cuba as a category five. The northern coast of Cuba was hit.

Florida

Saturday morning, the storm headed towards Florida and the Governor ordered people to leave immediately. The Florida Keys, Naples, Fort Myers and Tampa will be hit by the Storm.

The Dominican Republic and Haiti

This region was hit on 7th of September and winds of 185mph soaked the coast of The Dominican Republic and Haiti.

The Turks and Caicos Islands

The extent of the damage remains unclear as communications were destroyed as the storm continues towards Florida. The Turks and Caicos Islands experienced waves as high as 6 meters, and the extent of the devastation is expected to be high.

Alabama, North Carolina, and South Carolina have been declared to be in a state of emergency but are still safe from the storm.
