Old Chinese statues at the Temple of the Reclining Buddha.

in #travel5 years ago (edited)

Last November (2019), Steemfest4 took place in Bangkok at the Prince Palace Hotel. After the meetup, two Steemian friends from Finland stayed on four more days for sightseeing. I planned to take some time off work and take them on a tour around town, since they traveled all the way here. That’s quite the right timing, considering the spread of the new coronavirus in December. These are some of the photos I took at the Temple of Reclining Buddha which has the oldest and first school for teaching traditional Thai massage. Many foreigners came here each year to enrol in the programme and pass the qualifying exams with certificate for becoming practitioner.

Daabi2006 standing by the bronze yogi statue. There used to be over a hundred statues depicting yoga postures, but they were either got damaged through weather and time. These were part of traditional healing taught here long time ago. Western medicine arrived in Siam and Thai people lost their respect for old knowledge and wisdom. So many old texts on traditional herbal medicine were all lost over a few hundred years of Westernisation.

There are hundred of old Chinese statues in this temple. The booming in trading between Siam and China over two hundred years ago meant that hundreds of trading ships sailed in and out of the Gulf of Thailand. Empty sailing ships needed to stabilise the hulls with these heavy rock carvings and statues. These Chinese statues became popular decorations for large gardens, palaces and temples. I am quite fascinated by these art work.

It was good fun pretending to be tourist in my own country. We often take things for granted and neglect to learn and understand our old culture and wisdom. Taking my friends to various temples and sights in Bangkok have made me realise that I ought to do more research on Thai history.

This temple is quite big in terms of area and several big halls with many old Buddha statues. Most of these were old Buddha statues casted during the hey days of the old Ayutthaya Kingdom where good and silver were plentiful.

Hope you’ll visit the Temple of the Reclining Buddha or Wat Po in Bangkok one day.

Have a nice day.

Cheers.

You are so kind to have taken some foreigners around your country. You will be highly blessed, as your destiny has already stated so.

Thank you very much! You must be joking, going on a tour of sightseeing was really good fun! They are my friends on Steemit platform for over a year. So, they are my friends. I would not take strangers around as I am afraid of being kidnapped!! LoL

Have you followed what’s happening about the hard fork?!

Do start blocking on hive platform as you could join so many communities; you’ll get more support there. I am trying to keep both going at the same time; Appics allows you to post as many times as you want, but each post has only one photo! I use it to post videos and some odd photos. It’s a convenient place to post a short message with a photo!

Have a nice day.

Tell me more about the hard fork @kaminchan. I am trying to follow but lacking time to read everything.

This is a good and short conclusion of what is happening.

I don’t know how long Steemit will last. Sunny could power down within shorter time (than the old rules of 13 weeks). Then, he could sell all his Steem to recoup his investment.

Take care.

I checked your powerdown in your wallet.
You could make your powerdown go faster if you cancel and redo it.
Mine is 25%... I have 6179-> and powerdown amount is 1545. That's 25%. (4 weeks)
In your case... you have 1613 -> and your powerdown amount is only 160.
but 25% is 403. You could get more now if you cancel and redo your powerdown.
at 160, it will take you 10 weeks!!

This means that sunny will kill steemit in 4 weeks, I suppose.
You mentioned that

I don’t know how long Steemit will last.

The answer is 4 weeks!!
@kaminchan

So also we can assume that J.Sun will artificially pump up steem in about 25~30 days to get as much bitcoin as he can from selling off his STEEM (just like he did with HIVE).

Thanks! I was thinking the same last night!
Too tired! Must get some coffee first!

Cheers.

I am not certain whether he will dump Steemit or when he would do it.

The question: Does he see Steem blockchain as a useful tool in the long run?!
He had made lots of enemies already. People now know what he’s really like as a businessman.

Will those remaining bloggers continue to play his game? There are still many big accounts with lots of Steem. If half of them start powering down and get out, what would happen to the price of Steem.

Is it worth his while to continue to prop up the blockchain for the remaining bloggers?!

So, if people stop blogging, there is no income stream or much reduced income stream. How could Sunny make profit out of the company?

There are so many questions with no answers.
But he would be able to obtain all the sleeping accounts’ Steem after the owners have left.
The blockchain may be intentionally degraded so that people could not move anything or do anything. Natural degradation would make him look better in public.

Of course, I may be wrong in my speculation.

Wait and see.

I think you are right @kaminchan. They are always looking for an excuse.

I find this man very interesting! He reminds me of someone used to know!

He won't end well in the long run, though.

We'll see.

So what should I do? Power down on Steemit?
I noticed that full power down takes only 4 weeks now!
Do I power down and sell, and then buy Hive?
Or, is the money in my Hive wallet still there? I don't get it.
Later, if my funds in steem are inaccessible, does this mean that it would be gone from the Hive wallet, too?
Give me some insights here. Thank you

Your fund in Hive wallet is very safe; it’s on another blockchain, more secured as they have most of the best programmers from previous Steemit Inc.

But I don’t know what will happen to Steemit wallet in the medium term. Other people, who still don’t know what’s been happening, will probably have a big shock one day!

Now, Blocktrades has stopped buying Steem from our old wallets, because of the secret hard fork.
I have difficulty trying to deposit my fund with Poloniex.

How do you get your fund out of your account?

Cheers.

P. S. Just found an old post in Thai about the transfer of fund. Quite a learning curve!

For me, I send it to Binance.

Just did it after having some food! That post was very good and understandable.

I have bought BTC with my fund. Now, I just wait for the right time to power up my Hive account!

So glad I did it without making any mistakes. The other day someone was complaining about losing lots of money because of missing Memo.

Cheers.

@kaminchan, thank you so much for your very interesting and informative post. the photos are amazing!
Have a beautiful day!

Thank you very much for your encouragement.

Hope you could visit Thailand one day!

Have you checked your twin account on Hive.io?
Check your Hive wallet. Hard fork will bring sudden changes so look around.
