A trip to Kamyanets-Podilsky (Ukraine)
Kamenets-Podilsky, one of the oldest cities in Ukraine, is one of the most prominent phenomena of European culture. The rocky island, girded with the dullness of the loop of the Smotrych River, flowing in the picturesque deep canyon, has become a kind of natural pedestal, on which more than ten centuries known and unknown masters created a real stone miracle. Kamyanets-Podilsky today enchants the unique unity of the landscape and architecture.
Kamenets-Podilsky is not only a beautiful fortress, but also the cultural center of Podillya. The city needs to come to raise their martial spirit, to feel pride in their ancestors and to be proud of their feats.
Huge and small festivals held in Kamyanets attract young people and travelers from all over Ukraine.
Excursions in Kamyanets-Podilsky are divided into group and individual. The group moves much slower and the route is quite different, since within three hours it is not possible to go down into the canyon and look around the center of the Old Town.
1.The (Turkish) bridge , Kamyanets-Podilsky
The castle bridge in Kamyanets-Podilsky is considered one of the seven wonders of the city - it is an architectural monument of national significance. The construction of the people is also called the Turkish bridge. Today, the building is a solid stone wall that connects the city with the Old Castle.
2.Kovalsky tower, Kamyanets-Podilsky
The Polish Gate served as a fortification and hydrotechnical facility at the same time. The gate was used as a gate to the city, a dam and a defense tower. The Polish Gate complex was built in the 15th century on the basis of the 13th century fortification. It consists of a system of five towers and defensive walls located across the canyon, the width of which was 180 meters. Some historians claim that during its 400 year history the gates were never repaired, although they withstood strong sieges and attacks. In addition, they have repeatedly been subjected to flooding. Reconstructions and repairs have always been planned, but this never happened before.
3.The Polish Market Square, Kamyanets-Podilsky
Historically, Armenian, Russian and Polish national communities lived in Kam'yantsy-Podilsky for a long time. Each of them had the right to self-government, and also had its own square and town hall. That is why on the map of modern Kam'yantsa-Podilsky you can find all three Market places.
The main architectural gems of the Polish Market Square are the Armenian well and the Polish Town Hall. Pavilion over the well was built in the 1760s. In the center of the square is the city hall building, which is a classic example of the architecture of the mid-18th century. Her main decoration is the size of the tower. The building was built in the 1630-1640's, but in 1754 it was completely renovated. This fact is evidenced by a memorable plaque placed on one of the walls of the city hall. The rear facade of the building differs chaotically scattered windows of various sizes. On the perimeter of the area, the Polish Market is built up with residential premises most characteristic of the middle of the 17th century.
