A wonderful weekend at Mon Jam, Chiang Mai - My travel diary

Today I am going to tell you about my amazing camping weekend with my boyfriend up the mountains in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

One day my boyfriend and I decided to go camping. Chiang Mai has a lot of beautiful places which offer camping. I began to do some researches about where to go and which place is the best for an unforgettable adventure. I found out, that many people drive up the "Doi Mon Jam" (Doi means mountain) for camping. We looked up some pictures and we really liked the view so we decided to book a tent for one night at the camping resort up the mountain.
The price for a 2 person tent was 800 baht which is around 25 dollar.

Mon Jam is a restaurant and a camping resort located approximately an hour drive from Chiang Mai, in the Mae Rim district. This mountain is not only famous for the amazing views, also for the agricultural Nong Hoi Royal Project.
The Nong Hoi Royal Project lays on the 1,400 m-high mountain and grows strawberries, various kinds of vegetables, herbs and lavender. This project was funded by the King and the royal family as a way to improve the lives of poor villagers, reduce negative environmental impact and improve local economic development.

You can decide for yourself how to go there. Either by Songthaew, Taxi, Uber, Scooter or Motorcycle.
We decided to take the scooter as we can always stop wherever we want and enjoy the beautiful view. But be aware. As the mountain is very high, you need to make sure that your scooter is in a good condition. I knew that my scooter is not strong enough to drive up the mountain so we rented another scooter from a friend which was a bit heavier. With this scooter, it was no problem at all to drive up the hill.

After an hour drive, we arrived at the top of the mountain and it was very foggy but the whole ride was just amazing.
The flowers were super stunning and the views when you get there are more than breathtaking.
Actually the weather there is most of the time nice so if you have a very nice weather, the view will be even more stunning. Just keep in mind that if you go camping, it will be very cold at night. Just bring a jacket and something warm to sleep, with you. No need to worry about blankets. You will have everything inside the tent.
We did not count with such a cold night so we were freezing the whole time. But besides that, I can really recommend a night on the top of the mountain.

The place itself is very relaxing and it´s a very good opportunity to escape the busy city life.
We just enjoyed the time there. We checked out the location and made some nice pictures.

In the evening we decided to order some food from the restaurant. The amazing part is that you can take the food to your tent and then you just enjoy the evening with a very nice food inside your tent.
The delicious food is cooked with fresh Nong Hoi Royal Project ingredients, which grow right at Mon Jam itself.
Both of us were really amazed from the food. We liked it a lot.
We ordered 5 different dishes and each was perfect and super delicious. Of course, the prices for the food are a bit higher than at a random street kitchen. But for this quality, the price was absolutely okay.

We really enjoyed the evening and the atmosphere was very romantic. Not a lot of people stayed at the camping resort so it was very quiet and you could hear a lot of animals.

The next morning started and we woke up with a beautiful view.

You need to leave the camping resort actually at 11 am but we asked to stay until 1 pm so it was very nice because we could relax a bit longer in our tent. Another good thing about this camping resort is that each tent has its own toilet and bathroom right next to the tent. So that was very convenient.

Before we drove back to Chiang Mai, we enjoyed the view for one last time. It was such a peaceful place.
I actually felt a bit sad to drive back to the city because everything was so relaxing there.

We packed our stuff and drove back to Chiang Mai. We decided to take a different route to drive back. We passed rice and strawberry fields and everything was so green.

Back in Chiang Mai, I really missed the silence and the fresh air.
I can really recommend a weekend at Mon Jam. Once you were there, you don´t want to leave this peaceful place anymore.
If you want to have a romantic day and night with your loved one, you should definitely choose camping at Mon Jam. You will never forget this beautiful experience.
