A visit to the Serra San Bruno Charterhouse
A really nice and peaceful spiritual place located in the mountains in Vibo Valentia province. It was founded by Saint Bruno of Cologne in 1095, few years before dying there. It was destroyed by a really strong earthquake in 1783, and all the monks had to evacuate the place, and then return in 1857. Over the course of six years, most of the destroyed areas were completed.
It is impossible to get inside, as the whole area is reserved for the Carthusian monks who still live and pray in there. People can only visit the museum situated next to the Charterhouse and buy some food or drinks made by the monks. All the area is surrounded by the woods and there are other monuments dedicated to Saint Bruno, such as a church for the faithful people and the "Pond of penitence".
I am not religious at all, but I love history and nature, so I always go there when I need to breathe some fresh air and to relax. Believe me, it always helps!
