Alice through the Looking Glass, Palace of Versailles
As a girl behind the lens, usually I have all type of pictures and pictures of everybody around, but not me=)
So I got a habit to make the reflected self portrait each time I visit something cool!
Here is the one I call Alice Through the Looking Glass
I am in Chateaux de Versailles, Palace of Versailles, the Hall of Mirrors.
Have you ever been to Versailles?
It is a great place to visit. Do not hesitate to take an audioguide or to join the guided tour, because there are many interesting historic facts about this Palace.
As for the Hall of Mirrors, it is 73 m long and is the most famous hall of palace. It pays tribute to the political, economic and artistic success of France, evidently it is decorated all in gold. The Hall contains 357!!!! mirrors in total! At the time when the Palace was constructed, mirror was a real luxury product and was extremely expensive.
There is 17 big Arches in the Hall that mark the windows. It is fascinating the game of light in this Hall.
The ceiling.
The Hall was mostly used as a waiting rooml, however, it was also sometimes used for balls and official occasions. The Treaty of Versailles was signed here on 28 June 1919, ending the First World War.
