Cycling in Mallorca: sun, sea and mountains
The first week of September I went to Santa Ponsa, Mallorca. I hired a mountainbike and went on a tour. I had no plan where to go, I just ride and see where I end up. It was about 30 degrees the first day. I stayed in a hotel on the Avinguda del Rei Jaume and that's were I rented my bike and my cycling journey began. I drove west and went uphill. On top was the first point I made a stop to drink, had a great seaview and took this picture.
I went down again and took another road uphill. At a certain point I discovered this place, high on the rocks, again it was a beautiful seaview.
The wild sea!
There was a little square with trees, so I can take some rest in the cool shadow. I stepped on my bike again and saw this wallpainting, wow, nice work!
I paddled further uphill and came in an area with lots of beautiful houses and places with boats.
When I was going more and more uphill I discovered that the roads became less for cyclists and decided to go back on the same road, downhill. I started paddling faster, it's a great feeling to going high speed downhill: the wind, the rush, it's a feeling of freedom. When I was almost back at my hotel I saw this painting, it's always nice to discover a piece of art like this; I like the details and colors.
I went for lunch in a restaurant and stepped on my bike again, this time I went more east of Santa Ponsa. Again I saw a painting by the same artist, nice work! Plus some other paintings in the same area.
I also saw this colorful decoration, I love the details and the fresh colours.
At the end of the afternoon I went back and took a swim in the sea, on the beach next to the hotel. The next day I decided to rent the bike again. I went all the way uphill of the mountain, on the other side of the water, (I was next to the crane) This picture is taken in the afternoon when I was back from the top.
It was again 30 degrees and I was sweating so much when I was going uphill, my heart pumped and my legs had to work real hard. Here I am standing almost on the top.
On the bottom of the mountain I discovered this cool graffiti on the beach.
I stayed a while on the beach to drink and cool down. It was a place full of rocks and bright water.
I enjoyed these 2 days of riding on my own. With a backpack with just a towel, my phone and my wallet. It's amazing how much you can discover when you go out on a bike without a plan. Just ride and see!
