Travel Norway #5 part 1 - Let's go Undergound! - Grønligrotta Cave

Hello Dear Steemians! Today in my personal photo-guide to Norway - one of the most amazing caves I have visited here... Yes, it is in fact one of the largest and most popular caves in Norway.

Norway, as a land mass, is build from a very hard and strong rock formations - granite, basalt and others, which are not subject to karst processes. Most of natural caves and caverns are created by cracks in rock and mountain structures.

Grønligrotta Cave is the only natural cave which has electrical lighting (here in Norway ;))

These pictures was taken during my summer holiday trip to Lofoten, on the way back to Trondheim, we visited Svartisen glacier in a part called Austerdalsisen (which will be one of my next Travel Norway series post).

All pictures here weren't shared on any other site before - so despite the fact , they were taken 2 years ago - it is totally new project, but it is also project which I was going to finally finish.

I am glad to show some of the shots... and I decided to split this post on two parts, because during the selection process, I found that I have a lot interesting frames which I want to share - and I think a post with 30 photos can be tiring and boring... so I hope You will like this one and will also check the next one!

Comparing to other caves which we can visit and explore in other parts of Europe - this one is very small... maybe not all the cave area, but the part which is available to see by turists - all the tour lasts around 45 minutes, in which 10-15 minutes are used to "free run", to walk around, taking photos, also good for children's play - because the bottom of the cave is covered with soft, white sand... which, by the way, was brought here from outside, to make the floor more safe for visitors...
What I think about this I will keep for myself, children are vary happy to have a big sandpit ;).

But seriously, maybe the cave is small but in the same time is extreme beautiful!
It is in fact the riverbed, which flows here many many years ago. After water level went down, mountains rised up, ice age finished, this beautiful structure remains.

Flowing water inside the cave, with its amazing force, sculptured interesting forms among colorful rocks. Little stream is still flowing inside the cave - crystal clear, icy cold, full of minerals - ready to drink!!

The turist path is very well prepared - wooden bridges, all steps covered with anti-slip straps, and even these electrical lights are situated quite well - they give minimum lighting but not blind the visitors.

On the ceiling of the cave begun to create stalactites. All the walls are build of colorfull layers of different minerals.

All tours are guided so it is not possible to explore the cave alone. I had little problems because of this, to take a shoot without the people I tried to stay back from the group which was not very welcome by the guide... but after some talk and smiles - she was more comfortable to lead the whole group without me ;).
