Shondong - the largest cave in the world

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Shondong is a cave in Central Vietnam, now bearing the title of the largest cave in the world. It is located in the heart of the Fongnia-Kebang National Park in the province of Quangbin, near the Vietnamese-Laotian border. Its dimensions reach record levels - the height is 200 meters, the width is 150 meters, and the length is more than 5 kilometers. The total volume of unique education is 38.5 million m³.

"Hang Sơn Đoòng" from Vietnamese translates as "the cave of a mountain river". It really has an underground river with a rapid current that floods parts of Shondong during the rainy season. In addition, it has its own jungle, climate and even real clouds, which are formed due to a large temperature difference. Two huge windows of a giant underground cavity allow light to penetrate into many of its parts, thanks to which inside grow a lush jungle with 3-meter trees.

Flora and Fauna Shondong - a find for any scientist. On the territory of the cave many rare plant species grow, and recently a number of new species of animals have been discovered. Monkeys, rhino birds and flying foxes - they all live in unusual underground jungles.

A unique cave was formed as a result of a long process of leaching limestone by a water flow about 2-5 million years ago.
