To Switzerland and Beyond! - Tour de Suisse Part IV - Rhine Falls, Campus Galli, Blumeninsel Mainau (Flower Island)

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

As you may know from my last posts, I was showing my fiancée my favorite spots in Switzerland during her visit in early June, and wanted to share my favorite pictures from that little "Tour de Suisse" with you.

We already covered

When we were traveling together, I wasn't in tourist mode and wasn't thinking about posting to steemit, so please excuse the lack of pictures for many beautiful spots that just weren't new to me.

After our first little tour de Suisse, which involved about 10 hours of driving, and another trip to Munich and Innsbruck, We set out to see some more of Switzerland (and a little bit of Germany).

First off, we went to the Rhine Falls, a must for any tourist. A little river boat took us to a small island with a viewing platfor in the middle of the falls, where we took in the view.

The sheer force and volume of the water rushing by can only be appreciated in person, but the pictures should give you an idea. Luckily for us, but unlucky for the camera and you, the sky was cloudy at that time (lucky because it was very hot).

After the falls, we went on tonearby Messkirch, Germany, where we visited a medieval monastery construction site, called Campus Galli. It's one of my favorite spots to spend an afternoon wlaking in the forest, and watching volunteers build a monastery with medieval tools over a span of 40 years. Yes, I'm a nerd.

Since the last time I visited, they finished the wooden chapel for the workers, and as you can see, the sun decided to come out and play:

After we had a hearty lunch of medieval sausage and "Flammkuchen", we continued on to Konstanz (sorry, no pictures), and the "Blumeninsel" Mainau (Flower Island). It's an island completely devoted to beautiful arrangements of (exotic) flowers and plants. Example:

I wish I had taken more pictures to show you the beauty of this place, but alas, this flower stair-well (hehe) is all I can produce.

Of course, we visited many more places both in and outside of Switzerland in that week (For example Lichtenstein after Mainau), but none where I took good pictures I could show you. I'll do better next time!

This concludes my little Tour de Suisse. I hope you enjoyed it, and that it made you want to some day visit Switzerland!

Sort:

I have a flower stairwell like that in my back yard ;) What does that minnowsunite tag do for you?

Your back yard must be massive! But seriously, it sounds nice :-)

Oh, it used to give a bit more exposure to minnows, but I think that time has passed. I'll remove it.

The winky face means I sold my house last year and would be too lazy to do that even if I still owned one haha
Hmm, it seems the minnows have dispersed :/

Excellent post @ponimayu. I lived in Switzerland for 10 years, but have never been to the places you mentioned. It's amazing how many interesting places there are! I used to study in Montreux.

Well only the rhine falls are in Switzerland. The others are closeby in Germany. This is the part of the tour where we left Switzerland.

I love this country and the nice people who live there. They are so relaxed, easygoing and positive.

Clearly, you haven't met (m)any of us ;-)

Heheheheeh. I did :) Are you Swiss?

No way???? You were born there? Or you got the passport?
Many of my friends received Swiss passport after studying there.
People are so nice there, at least in Montreux, Vevey, Geneva.

I was born there/here.

To be honest, I can't speak to that, as I don't understand French, but I'll believe you ^^

Just don't come live in Zurich, if you want to maintain that image.

Thanks for travel advice @ponimayu, good to know :)))

Sweet! More people doing posts about Switzerland! :)
Feel free to check out my hiking posts about Switzerland, if you're intested.
