Andaman and Nicobar Islands:transportation
Traffic on the islands comes from two-way-air and waterways. Alliance Air runs its services between Kolkata and Port Blair as well as Chennai and Port Blair. Jet Airways operates its services only between Chennai and Port Blair. Shipping vessels of shipping (shipping) Directorate come from Port Blair between Kolkata, Chennai and Visakhapatnam. Shipping Department has many boats and other means to meet the requirements of intercontinental traffic.
The Motor Transport Department of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration operates the service from 13 centers of the Northern and Southern Islands. The department has a total of 205 buses, which run mainly in the rural areas of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Computerized ticket system has been started since August 15, 2007. Advance tickets can be obtained from here.
