Until now, I just knew enough about Maheshwar (Madhya Pradesh) that the saris of that place are very famous. If the fabric of fine fibers is made of woven, cotton or silk, Maheshwari saris, they may look tangled, then my steps go unnoticed for some time. But just a few days back I came to know that Maheshwar's greatness is more than his saris! On going towards Jaipur, we decided that one night pass in this sari city. Google Map dropped us down from the highway and our car came on a long, greener and quiet way through a crowded city. After sunset we reached a small and dull city of Maheshwar. When we first saw the hotels of Madhya Pradesh tourism, thinking of spending the night at a hotel on the side of Narmada, there was disappointment. In the absence of maintenance, the rooms were crispy. Then we stayed somewhere else which was more clean but was not on the edge of Narmada. Perhaps that night, Narmada's happiness was not written in the ear.
Weaving of maheshwari sarees
This is the specialty of this region of Madhya Pradesh. Knitting of these saris made of silk and cotton yarn is said to be started in the fifth or sixth century. Silk came from China in olden times. Later, India's silk began to be brought into use. These saris have their own special character, which makes them differently. Most saris are inspired by the carving / artwork made on the temple. Rewa Holkar is the initiative of the family and goes under the protection of these, so that the weavers can get fair price for these beautiful sarees. Anybody will be hypnotized by the colors and weaving art of saris. Born in Indore, Richard Holkar, the descendant of Ahilya Bai, and grew up in California America, he married the woman Sally of Texas. They both came back to Maheshwar and reinstated both of this fort and art. Rani's generations are pushing for this virtuous work so that the Kargans rotate here and art remains immortal.
If you are going towards Indore then there is a sense of discretion to wander once more. It is a very delightful tourism area, just a short distance away from the national route - Mandovi Yani Mandu. Mandu used to be the town of Raja Bahadur and Sundari Roopmi once settled on the plateau area. His romantic stories are still famous. The beautiful and spectacular buildings here are under the patronage of the Archeology Department. Due to the stories of love and heroism, the relics of the people here have been enticing people. Several other melodious songs have been shot here along with the famous song 'Naam Gum Jaaga' in the film 'Kinaara'. The way to go through small villages makes the journey even more exciting.
Bollywood likes Maheshwar
The natural beauty of Maheshwar has been the center of attraction for our Bollywood and South film directors as well as the tourists! AR Rahman also shot a non-filmy video here. A large part of the film 'Yamla Pagla Deewana' has been shot here on the banks of Narmada and the market square. Several episodes of TV serial 'Rani of Jhansi' were also made here. The latest film in this episode is 'Pad Man' by Akshay Kumar and Radhika Apte.
