Alternatives to popular tourist destinations

I enjoyed reading this article about "similar" alternatives, to popular tourist destinations. I am not a fan of large crowds, but that's often where the interesting things are. This article makes some nice suggestions.

• Instead of Rome - Visit Pula, Croatia
• Instead of Paris… ...visit Bruges, Belgium
• Instead of Los Angeles......visit Santa Barbara, California
• Instead of Kyoto…...visit Nikkō, Japan
