Return to GR 131 (Day 2) / Návrat na GR 131 (Den 2)

in #travel4 years ago

After the rest of the staff woke up, we made a breakfast together and started planning how we get to the northernmost part of the island. We were offered to take us there by rented car from my friend, from a couple we met the previous day. As a bonus we got 10g of weed and set off for a journey to the far north. At the gas station, we refueled the car and went on direction to Santa Cruz. Along the way, we stopped at the grocery store to replenish the food for the next few days, because we didn't know how often there would be villages to buy something. After a smooth ride through Santa Cruz, we began to climb the mountains on narrow roads until we arrived at a village called Chamorga. Here we eat snack, rolled joint and said goodbye.

The weather here looked quite different than in the south. It was warm, but low clouds showed it was going to rain. Under the threat of rain, we went to Roque de Pilón and then along the hiking trail to Punta de Anaga Lighthouse. There were a few people who were on a trip here. We had no idea that these are the last tourists we see for a few days. Next we headed to the village of Los Orobales, but we had no idea that this village no longer exists and consists of a few broken houses. It was a beautiful place overlooking the northernmost part of the island. Since it was about sunset, we decided to spend the night here.

We found a house that was built from a cave and now used as a rain shelter for goats running around the rocks. After the accommodation began to rain.. We cooked dinner and were going to sleep. There was quite a lot of noise from the sea hitting the rocks. There was no sound of rain falling heavily from heaven. But in the end we slept well because we had a spacious shelter overhead. In the morning I went to take pictures to the highest point of the village. Even though it was overcast view was amazing.

The first day we walked only 5.2 km, but with a massive elevation of 1141 meters. Right after the first day we knew that this trip would not be easy. But it was clear to us that we would walk the most beautiful parts of the island.
