Introducing Steem-Hikers

Hello Steemians! We are Steem-Hikers - two passionate travellers, hitch-hikers, wanderers and active Steemians under the nicknames @saunter and @ceybiicien.

This year we are going on a long-time hitch-hiking trip around the world - we are going to travel from Europe all over Asia and then to South America, where after a few months or so we will go back home to Poland.

We will cover the whole journey here on Steem, which we also intend to promote during the journey. What's more, we would like to meet Steemians from all over the world and share our experience from the meetings on the blog!

That is why we decided to name our blog Steem-Hikers, as it will be hitch-hiking powered by Steem and hopefully - powered by Steemans who we will meet along the way. The logo is a green variation on the Steem logo. Why green? For we associate the green with freedom, travel and nature, which are the values that are crucial to us.

Who are Steem-Hikers?

@saunter

I am a fresh psychology graduate, who has been travelling by hitch-hiking for 8 years now. I am relentlessly led by mad cognitive hunger for understaning the world, man, mind, culture and society. This hunger has led me to psychology and travel, but also to many other aspects of reality such as literature, zen, foreign languages and.... blockchain. On my private account, I usually write about academic psychology in an accessible way and about my travelling memories, although I do not confine myself to these topics.

@ceybiicien

All my life today revolves around one single aspect - dreams. As a kid, I was walking with my head high up in the clouds. During my adult life that hasn't changed. My mind is still levitating, but my material body has mobilized itself to make those dreams come true. And so on the horizon, my biggest travel dream appears - a hitch-hiking trip around the world. In the past, I just wanted to see all these beautiful places on the planet. Quite recently I realized that the greatest beauty of our planet are human beings. I would like to focus the most on getting to know their worlds.

When? Where? For how long?

At this moment we are planning to leave Poland more or less in mid-September 2018. This date may change, but everything indicates that it will be September. We will keep you informed of any changes to our plans.

Where? We have some plans for the countries and places we would like to visit, but we know from our experience that these plans are often revised significantly when travelling. Firstly we'll head towards Asia, where we want to spend at least a year, but it will probably be a longer period. Then we will go to South America for several months. But who knows, maybe we will also find ourselves in in Australia or New Zealand? How will we get from Asia to America? We do not yet know - maybe we will try to "yacht-hiking" to cross the ocean! ;)

We have this luxury that we are not limited to any returning date. If we become tired or burned out, we can return after a year, if there will be a constant desire for adventure in us, the journey may take 3 or 4 years! If we meet a place that attracts us, we will stay there for a longer time. If we meet some people we want to spend time with - we will do it. We also intend to undertake some voluntary work in Asia.

Steem-Hikers' Philosophy of Travel

We travel by hitch-hiking - standing by the road with a thumb up, waiting for some driver to stop and invite us inside. This gives us the opportunity to meet local people, learn a lot more, and often experience an unexpected adventure with them. Through hitch-hiking emotions and intensity of experience increase several times. We sleep in tents, under the clouds, through CouchSurfing, cheap hostels or at locals' if they invite us into their doorsteps (we only agree to invitations if we feel that we will not use hospitality at the expense of e.g. necessary means of living for our hosts - we never ask for accommodation). We sometimes use cheap buses or trains when we are very tired, but 90% of our travel is hitch-hiking.

Before going to any country, we try to explore the culture and history of that region. We read books and reportages about a given place, we look into historical complexities, listen to local music, in a short - we try to comprehend the world we enter as much as we can. Thanks to the acquired knowledge and context, we can see much more and much deeper. We also know what questions to ask to see even more. For us, the journey begins much earlier than on the day of our departure - it starts with the imagination carried by music, literature, myths and legends...

We like historical monuments and great attractions, but we really love are unusual, unique and unknown places that show the true face of the culture we visit. We enjoy villages, "shit-holes", non-touristic places, ruins, deserted locations. Diversity. We love places known to local people and not necessarily familiar to tourists. We value both the wilderness and hustle and bustle of cities - we want to silence ourselves in nature for a few days and then throw ourselves into the whirlpool of huge metropolises.

Meet Steem-Hikers!

One of our missions is to meet Steemians from all over the world! If you would like to meet us for a coffee or beer, show us your city, village or your favourite wild place or just tell us an interesting story - you will be able to contact us and meet us! We speak Polish, English, Russian and Esperanto and we have just started learning Spanish, so there's a change that we'kk be able to communicate!

In the near future, we will publish a content in which we will describe the details of how we see Steem-Hikers' meetings and interactions with the Steemians and how to make contact with us.

What kind of content will we publish?

We are not yet able to fully determine what form this blog will take. We will improvise to a large extent and adapt ourselves to both the journey and your expectations. That is how we see it so far:

  • Longer, reportage-like posts describing a story, place, adventure or event in which we will participate. They are likely to appear relatively rarely every week/two weeks.
  • Shorter stories describing the most interesting fragments of our adventures, places or characters we will meet.
  • The most interesting, the most surprising, funny or beautiful photos with a short description.
  • Reports on the meetings with Steemians - posts' length will depend on the duration and intensity of the meeting.

Of course, all entries will be filled with photos. We take into account periodically posting films on DTube. The frequency and duration of posts will depend on our "leisure time", where we will be able to sit down and calmly write a post having the Internet access. Contrary to appearances such a few hours of time with the Internet access is not quite common during the backpacker travels, but we will try to obtain enough time to publish regularly!

What will write about until September?!

Our lives are now 100% focused on the upcoming journey. Preparing for a trip around the world is a challenge and in itself takes several months. During these 9 months before our departure we will report on our preparations, but not only - we have at least a few pretty amazing surprises to show in the near future. Soon you will find out more, so it is worth following us today!

Thank you for your attention! See you on the road, we hope!
