7th day of Srilanka's trip! Is Srilankan paper made of an elephant poo?! 😁
Hi again. After delicious breakfast we headed not far away for the Batik (gems & jewellrs) factory, processing precious stones mined by 5 of the reach Sillanka’s regions. Soon after we visited also its big shop and had the opportunity to buy some jewelry, sapphires, gold, etc. But it’s not that cheap either.
After that, we took a walk through the Royal Botanic Garden in the city of Paradeniya. It’s really big and famous one. We also found the Tulip tree, planted by H.E. Marshal Josip Broz Tito on 22th january 1959. It’s definitely worth a visit.
Today’s last stop was an elephant orfanage in the city of Pinawella near Kandy. They’re taking care for the elephants usually injured by traffic or others accidents, deseases, etc. We also had the opportunity to see the way of feeding, marshing and bathing them. So spectaculous.
In one of the nearby market the woman showed us a very interesting thing – the way of processing elephant’s poop into paper for everyday use. It's not so complicated. It goes like this: Cleaning - drying - fiber production - fiber pressing, polishing.
From around 16:00 p.m. in the afternoon we were having free time for exploring the city of Kandy.
Few picures of the town’s beat are attached bellow.
That’s all for today !:)
You visited Peradeniya Botanical garden too?!! It's so nice and beautiful isn't it?
