Mount Batur | Bali, Indonesia

Happy Friday Steemins!!

In May of last year, Angel and I got to check off another location on our bucket list, BALI 😍

We only had 1 thing that we NEEDED to do while we were there and that was climbing Mount Batur and watching the sunrise. It is a 5,633 ft tall active volcano located at the center of two concentric calderas north west of Mount Agung on the island of Bali,Indonesia.

We were picked up from the hotel at approximately 1:30 am to begin the 2-hour drive to the trekking departure point. When we arrived (around 3:30 am) our guide gave us a safety briefing before we started our walk through the lava rocks in the pitch dark. We were given headlamps which came in SUPER handy because you really couldn't see anything otherwise.

The climb itself is fairly straightforward apart from the last bit from the lower edge of the crater where the track is covered in volcanic sand which is slippery AF. Shoes with good grip are a MUST, unless you want to be slipping and sliding. You also want to bring a headlamp with you so you can see where you are going in the dark.

We arrived at the peak of the volcano at around 5:30 am. We were served with a banana sandwich and boiled eggs with coffee/tea while waiting for sunrise. After about an hour the sun started rising and the fog started clearing. It was about another 45 minites before the sun fully raised and it was one of the most magnificent things I had ever seen in my life. After taking all of our photos, our guide took us around the crater to see the magnificent view of Mount Batur. We also got to see a bunch of cheeky monkeys who live on the top of this volcano 🙈🙉🙊
