My trip to Namibia (4): African landscapes in black and white

KNen.jpg

This continent sparkles with colours, from red and yellow sand, through blue sky, the green of the jungle and various skin tones. However, as soon as the colours go out, a new beauty of Africa appears. Full of surprising shades and contrast.

For many kilometers of the road there are no traces of civilization. Not a single car in front of you, not a single person. Even telecommunication poles... However, the mountainous landscape of Namibia was changing like a kaleidoscope.

Among the rocks there is a living open-air museum of the Damara people. They live near the village every day, earning money for living by showing a traditional way of life. They are able to light a fire without matches, they are familiar with herbal medicine and speak a strange language of nama. They also did not conduct wars, and disputes are settled by the commanders playing balls.

Behind the village of the Damara people there is a cemetery. The locals are Christians, and among their houses, the central position in the village is occupied by a wooden church made of planks, to which a priest arrives during the ceremony.

Only dust and heat were the same in Namibia. Especially in the Namib desert, in the famous dunes. Even at dawn it was difficult to breathe there. Dried trees hadn't drunk water for years. It is not easy to find life there.

The further north there is more of it. After hours of searching, among dry river beds and mountains, we finally found life in one of our most magnificent forms. A herd of more than 20 elephants, seeking food in the midst of dry soil.

Very Cool...Wait, that probably isn't the best way to describe this adventure you took us on here. How about, Wow such a dry and hot post!! I am kidding but seriously those photos and the commentary took me along for the ride. I appreciate how with not so many words you were able to accomplish that. Great work!! I do have a couple ?'s being that I have never been to Namibia
How many people live in the village?
What is considered the closest "Big" city or civilization?
How close did you end up getting to the Elephants? They don't seem too far off.
Again, those photographs in black and white worked out perfectly! I look forward to seeing and reading more about your Trip to Namibia
