Adinath Temple Maheshkhali, Cox's Bazar

Every religion has its own sacred place for religious rituals. For Hindus of Bangladesh, a sacred place is a temple and if it is old, then it becomes even more important. Today I am going to write about the Adinath Temple located at an altitude of 280 feet above sea level in Maheshkhali. It is one of the most famous Hindu temples in Bangladesh.

Main building of the temple

This temple is located in Thakurtala village in Maheshkhali upazila of Cox's Bazar district. This temple is located on the top of Mainak hill, which has to be climbed up 69 steps from the plain. According to popular belief and Hindu religious beliefs, its foundation was laid thousands of years ago, but its current structure was built in 1500 AD. Now the priests in charge here regularly perform worship and all religious activities. However, they arrange worship for Hindu visitors. Now you have to enter the main temple through a few steps.

Stairs from the plain to the temple
Crematorium next to the stairs

First, you have to go up the stairs through the entrance and then you can come to the main temple premises. Before you come to the temple premises, you can see many graves next to the stairs, but I don't know whose graves they are. To enter the main temple premises, you have to take off your shoes and leave them outside, but even though there is no fee, you have to pay 5 taka (0.50) STEEM for each pair of shoes to store your shoes.

After this, you have to enter the main temple through the second entrance. However, there are a few more structures and goddess temples before the main temple. In which regular religious activities are performed. There is a rest and accommodation facility for devotees/retirees coming from far away. Vegetarian food is always cooked here.

There are two ponds next to the main temple which, although 85 meters above sea level, never dry up and are freshwater ponds. It is believed that bathing in these ponds cures diseases. It is open to visitors and tourists from 9 am to 5 pm every day. Below I am sharing the pin and Google Map location of the Steem Atlas.
