Leaving Liverpool, Where Will Salah Land?
Liverpool's Egyptian striker, Mohamed Salah, has confirmed he will leave the Reds in the 2026 summer transfer window, which runs from June 15th to August 31st. So, where will the three-time Premier League top scorer land?
Salah's departure from Anfield was confirmed in an Instagram post by @mosalah. "Unfortunately, the day has come. I never imagined how this club, this city, and these people would leave such a lasting impression on me and become such a part of my life," he wrote.
Salah's departure was expected, even though he had signed a contract extension until 2027. Some attributed the departure to a strained relationship with Liverpool manager Arne Slot. However, reports in leading British media outlets did not explicitly state that Salah's early departure was due to Slot.
In various netizen responses to the @mosalah account, some commented that the Egyptian player would play in Turkey. However, some media outlets have speculated that Salah might play for Saudi Arabian Pro League club Al-Ittihad, who have long been eyeing him. The offer of a contract and a high salary are attractive factors in Salah's move.
Other speculation suggests Salah is moving to the United States Major League Soccer (MLS). San Diego FC is said to be among the clubs interested in acquiring Salah.
Salah's agent, Rabby Abbas Isa, denied these speculations. He stated that the circulating information is simply seeking sensationalism. He emphasized that there is no certainty yet regarding which club Salah will join next season.
"The situation is still completely open and has not led to any agreement. We don't yet know where Mohamed will play next season. This means no one else knows. Beware of attention seekers who are only looking for clicks," he wrote on his account, @RamyCol.
Football journalist Fabrizio Romano has not been observed posting speculation about Salah on his account, @FabrizioRomano. He usually finds out sooner, and the information he shares is often accurate.
Salah remains focused on finishing the final minutes for the Reds. In the league, Liverpool's chances are almost gone, as they languish in fifth place in the standings with 49 points, a far cry from Arsenal, who have accumulated 70 points at the top of the table.
However, Liverpool still has a chance to end the season by lifting the FA Cup, having already reached the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, Liverpool will face a tough opponent: Manchester City, in the first week of April. In the quarterfinals, the Reds will also face defending champions Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on April 9th.
Will Salah end his sweet history with Liverpool? It will be interesting to see. But whatever the outcome, Salah has already won several trophies for Liverpool. As he wrote, "Liverpool is not just a football club. It's a passion. It's history. It's a passion I can't explain in words to anyone who isn't part of this club."
