Fire In the Park
In my post I posted day before yesterday when I went for biking in the park, I saw something which is not fare. I promised to post a video which will show you how the kids burnt trash in the park. I am posting that video now which shows the smoke at the 1:58 minutes onward.
I filmed the park during my usual walk, expecting the usual calm, children playing, elders chatting on the benches, the scent of cut grass in the air.
Around 1:58 into the footage something changed. I saw a small group of kids near the edge of the playground gathered around a heap of plastic wrappers and dried leaves. At first I thought they were just poking at it, but then one of them struck a match.
At first the flame was small, but within seconds the fire licked higher, and a thick smoke began to rise. To stop I shouted at them and waved my hands, but the kids seemed more curious than afraid, some even laughed,
The smoke turned from thin gray to a darker, as the plastic started burning. It was bad for my eyes so I moved away but captured what was happening, both because I felt I should document it and because I hoped someone who could intervene would see it.
People on the nearby benches began to notice and stood up. A man sitting close yelling for them to put the fire out another one found a bucket and put water on the pile, but I felt angry that they had chosen to burn rubbish in a public space, I could already picture the damage. The smell was risky for my health so I moved away.
Recording felt necessary. This wasn’t just mischief; it was a hazard. I recorded the smoke and the kids’ actions so I could show the community and the park authorities what had happened. I wanted people to see how quickly a casual act becomes dangerous, how ordinary trash can produce toxic fumes.
We are facing so many cases of fire during this summer in different cities so we all must share responsibility for keeping public spaces safe.
Watching the video back, the smoke is a sharp reminder that vigilance matters, and that we should teach our children safer ways to handle waste and play.
I promised you this video in my post the day before yesterday, and here it is.
