Trump's G7 remark, Meloni and FATE VP

I wasn't surprised when I heard US President Donald Trump sparked laughter at the G7 summit in France after arriving late and jokingly declaring "I'm the boss" to fellow world leaders seated around an oval conference table.

The remark came as he took his seat beside French President Emmanuel Macron ahead of global economic security discussions. Trump later clarified it was meant as humor, not a serious claim of dominance, saying "I was just trying to" generate laughter.

However, the comment became widely circulated on social media and was mocked by critics as showcasing Trump's authoritarian tendencies at an international gathering of democratic leaders. I'm not surprised because if he speaks 100 words, 80 of them are self-centered and 20 have no relevancy. He thinks he is the boss but if he go have a contest with Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine at a comedy show, he will outclass Zelenskyy as a comedian.

Then what irritated me to the core was when the feud happened between Meloni and Trump. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni accused Trump of "completely made up" claims that she "begged" him for a photo at the G7 summit. The two were once close allies, but Meloni now criticizes Trump for showing more respect to adversaries than long-standing Western allies. They previously clashed over Trump's criticism of Pope Leo XIV regarding the Iran war and Italy's non-participation in military conflict.

Now I come to the most crucial point, I'm proud that India has secured historic FATF Vice-Presidency of the Financial Action Task Force for the first time since joining the organization in 2010, marking a landmark achievement in India's global financial governance role.

Our Union Culture Secretary Vivek Aggarwal was designated as FATF Vice-President during the plenary meeting's closing session at the organization's Paris headquarters. He will succeed UK's Giles Thomson, who held this post since July 1, 2025.

Aggarwal will serve for one year starting from July 2026 to June 2027, under the upcoming UK Presidency. BTW, FATF's is the global standard-setter for combating money laundering and terrorist financing. Members endorsed FATF priorities under the UK Presidency and appointed Aggarwal as the incoming Vice-President who I believe is the right guy.

This is historic as India has been a member of this influential international entity since 2010, but this is the first time India has occupied this chair. The appointment reflects our growing influence in global financial regulation and its robust framework for combating financial crimes.
