A tour of the city of almonds
Hello friends, I hope you are well today. I want to share with you some photos I took a few days ago when I was in Cologna Veneta, an important city in the Lower Veronese plain known throughout Italy but also in the world as the city of almonds.
think that this area was inhabited since the Neolithic because several archaeological finds have been found here, then it entered the sphere of the Roman Empire but with Venice it had an agricultural and manufacturing importance.
Today This city is linked to the mandorlato which is a typical Christmas dessert made with honey, sugar, egg white and whole almonds with a crunchy consistency and intense flavour. In fact, just a few days ago I passed by there and took some photos and they were actually preparing the party for this dessert which is made every year.
Cologna Veneta currently has more than 8,400 inhabitants on an area of approximately 43 square kilometers. It has remained an agricultural center with cereal and fruit production and also the processing of sugar beet, but in reality in recent periods, in recent years the economic fabric has been based on small-medium sized industries and crafts, which is more or less what is most widespread in Veneto.
