My best road trip story

in Traveling Steem10 days ago

When the travel plans finally leave the WhatsApp group chat. That was exactly how I felt as I packed my bag by 2am that morning still talking in a frenzied pitch with my friends, even asking their help in selecting what i’d wear. Prior to this time, I had never done an interstate travel on a powerbike, this was going to be my first experience and I was beyond excited about it.

We had agreed on me arriving by 9am so I would get kitted up as biking especially outside the state had rules and dress codes. I arrived by 8:30am and by 10am, we were on the road. This trip was going to be a simple interstate roundabout, from owerri to portharcourt and back- it would take us the better part of 5 hours to and from.

Kitted up and ready to go!!!

Once I hopped on the bike and we hit the road, I fully understood what it felt like to travel without being held up by traffic, plussssss, I was a passenger who was paying absolutely nothing in terms of transport, I got to enjoy the speed and smoothness of a journey that otherwise would take me 3 hours going if I went by public transport, the constant blare of horns as the bus driver overtook other buses while keeping his eyes out for potential passengers forgetting that the ones he alresdy carried were still humans and needed to get to their destination both on time and in one piece.

The saying is true that a biker doesn’t have to plan his activities while biking to another city, just as there are a throve of activities to do in the biking community, there’s never a boring moment.
Once we arrived we were ushered to an emergency medical session being held, I’ve written about that In a previous post. The session had not started so we were offered water and small chops, as if they knew I was hungry. After about an hour of waiting we excused ourselves to take a ride in the city.
Heading straight to a friend’s office. Once he saw us, he took us straight to eat - all bills paid and settled without my paying a dime.

From there we headed back to the medical session. It was a very interactive and educating one laced with a lot of laughter. Once we were done, we had some Arabian tea. The tea tasted almost like honey and as a sweet tooth, I enjoyed myself throughly.

It was time to head back to base and off we went! It was by all means the best first biking trip I’ve had, at no personal cost but with premium comfort, speed and in a relaxed atmosphere. I even learnt a few things and made some new friends.

Saludos steemian.
