Whenever I see a facebook status debating the recent Florida school shooting I can't help but wonder.
When are we, as humans, going to start taking the blame when tragedies happen? Instead of pushing all of the blame on gun control, lack there of, the government, Obama, Ronald Reagan, Jersey Shore season 2.
We all know how mean kids can be. I sit here in front of my computer screen and I read countless statuses about the recent shooting that has taken place, statuses written by the same exact people who bullied me in school, who called me fat in school, who wouldn't be my friend in school for whatever reason. In middle school a boy that was in my grade decided that I needed a nickname, so he started to call me "Whale". It didn't take long to catch on, and soon enough everyone was calling me Whale! School was a negative experience for me, however I made it through. I made it through because I had the proper support in my home life. And I had maybe four very close friends who meant the world to me, and still do. My parents supported me financially and mentally all throughout, because when my parents decided they wanted to bring a baby into the world, they had the means and the time to do so. My mother didn't work, her job was to be a full time parental figure, my dad owned and operated his own company. My dad was rarely around while I was growing up but he always made sure our family was financially stable, and that I grew up with everything I ever could have asked for as a child. Together they taught me things like how not be a shit head, they taught me not to listen to people who say things simply to hurt your feelings, they made sure I had the mental capacity to be my own person with my own thoughts 100% of the time.
Now all of that being said, I understand we need more gun control, that's not something I've ever been opposed to. But what I do want people to think about is how children are being raised in the world now. Children are being raised without both parents because their parents can no longer stand to be in a relationship with each other. Children are being raised watching their own single mothers have to work two jobs and still have to use food stamps to put food on the table. Children are being raised without fathers, because some men aren't ready to have children, but can't seem to pull out on time or slap on a condom before blowing their loads everywhere.
Children are being raised by our schools. Our schools that are full of bullies, cliques, false hopes, and the pressures of having to get good grades or else they may never make it in the "real world" everyone is always "preparing" them for.
We can go and we can ban things all we want, but at the end of the day, is banning AR-15's going to teach our children, and our adults, to be kind to one another? To not bully one another? Is tighter gun control going to teach us that life is absolutely precious and the only life we get to live is the one were living right now? So we should probably not go around shooting other living beings out of frustration or anger or whatever emotion actions like these are derived from? We need to place more value on this life we all live, and actually start caring about one another. Not just arguing about what we all think is right or wrong. Right or wrong shouldn't ever matter as much as life or death.
