Public key and private key
Assalamu Alaikum
The entire security system of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology is based on a special mathematical method called cryptography. And the two most basic and essential elements of this cryptography are 'Public Key' and 'Private Key'. Together they are called a 'key-pair' or key pair. These two digital codes or keys work in perfect coordination to ensure the exchange and ownership of cryptocurrency.
A public key is a large number of complex digital codes, which are open or visible to everyone on the network. To explain it in simple terms, it can be compared to the 'bank account number' or email address in our conventional banking system. Anyone can see your public key and there is no security risk in sharing it with everyone. In the blockchain, this public key is basically the address for receiving your cryptocurrency or 'Wallet Address'. If someone from anywhere in the world wants to send you any cryptocurrency or digital asset, they will have to use this public key or wallet address.
A private key is a completely opposite, highly secret digital code, which is reserved only for the owner of the wallet. It can be compared to the 'ATM PIN' or digital password of your bank account. The only key to spending or transferring the funds or cryptocurrency that is deposited in your wallet through the public key is this private key. When you send cryptocurrency to someone, you have to digitally sign the transaction using your private key on the backend. This signature proves that you are the real owner of those funds. The biggest rule in the crypto world is that this private key should never be shared with anyone. If a hacker or third party learns your private key, they can instantly take control of all the assets in your wallet, and once a transaction is made on the blockchain, it can never be undone.
Public keys and private keys are mathematically linked to each other in such a way that only the private key of its opposite pair has the ability to unlock or decrypt the information or funds that are locked or encrypted using the public key. That is, anyone can send funds to your wallet using your public key, but the ability to unlock and spend those funds is only possible through your secret private key.
In short, public keys and private keys are the digital security wall of the cryptocurrency ecosystem. While the public key acts as your digital address, allowing anyone to send funds to you, the private key maintains your sole ownership and control over those funds. So the key to keeping your assets safe in the crypto market is to keep your private key completely offline and under your own control with extreme caution. Today's discussion concludes here. I hope you've found it interesting. Please share your thoughts on today's topic. Prayers for everyone. May everyone be well. Amen.
