In today's digital age, the risk of cybercrime and hacking is constantly increasing. It is no longer possible to ensure 100% security of online accounts with a simple username and password; because password theft through phishing, data leaks or malware is very common. As a solution to this problem, a very strong layer has been added to the digital security system, called 'two-factor authentication' (2fa) or two-factor verification for short. Simply put, it is a security process where a password alone is not enough to log in to an account, but two different pieces of evidence or 'factors' have to be provided consecutively to confirm the user's identity.

How it works

Two-factor authentication basically works based on three main things—1. What you know (e.g. your password), 2. What you have (e.g. your mobile phone or security key) and 3. Who you are (e.g. your fingerprint or Face ID).

Need and Importance

The biggest advantage of turning on 2FA is that even if a hacker somehow steals your account's real password from a distance, he will still not be able to log in to your account. Because at the moment of login, he will need the OTP or the live code of the authenticator app that came to your phone, which is impossible for a hacker to get remotely. Using 2FA has now become mandatory, especially for cryptocurrency trading exchanges, bank accounts, and sensitive social media.

Conclusion

In short, two-factor authentication (2FA) is like installing another sophisticated digital lock on the door of your digital house in addition to the regular lock. Although it may seem like a little hassle to enter an additional code every time you log in, this little precaution can provide the highest level of security and peace of mind compared to the emotional pain and financial loss of hacking or account hijacking. Today's discussion concludes here. I hope you've found it interesting. Please share your thoughts on today's topic. Prayers for everyone. May everyone be well. Amen.
