Welcome to the 37th tutorial in my Steemit tutorial series. In this tutorial, I will explain Copyright infringement and its bad impact in blogging & social media platform like steemit. I shall also provide tips to avoid them and contribute positively to Steemit and any other writing or content sharing platform. This is one kind of stealing others intellectual asset. So it is a serious issue for human rights as well. So, let understand it better.

Copyright infringement is using other peoples work without asking. This is very simple. It can be books, songs, video, or even photo. When anyone copies or shares that work without permision, it break the rights of creator. So it is one kind of stealing of other’s asset as I mentioned earlier. Copyright rules are there to save effort of artist, writer, musicians etc. It help them to decide how they want their works to be use. We must respect copyright because it keep creative world safe. Many persons think using copy for own need is not wrong. But this also can be infringement if no rights are given. Companies and online sites should take care because they may face case in court if not follow this rule. There is a lot of such example of court case and huge Punishment. Punishment can be money fine, deleting content, cancelling licence of doing business, or any other legal action. To stay safe, better to make own content or ask the owner before use. Copyright makes creativity valuable. It is a way of inspiring more people to publish their work with trust.

One very common example of infringement is movie piracy. Some people record film in cinema and upload online. Many sites also keep pirated songs and films. This makes big loss to film and music industry. Audiences watch without paying so creators not earn properly. Another example is piracy of software. Many users download cracked program free. This cause harm to company and also to user because pirated software is unsafe. Napster was music sharing app in late 1990s. Millions of users downloaded free songs without paying artist. This create huge loss to industry. The company got sued and closed in 2001. So, you can understand how music piracy online can destroy business. I can share another case like Apple vs Samsung. It was very hot issue. Apple said Samsung copied design and features of iPhone. Courts in US and other countries judged the case. Billions of dollar was involve. This example prove that copyright is not only for music or films. It also cover technology and design. Big brands fight hard to save their work cause the market is so competitive.

The problem of infringement is very wide. Creators lose income and stop making new works. Many artist and small businesses suffer. Large companies may handle loss but small creator not can. The overall impact is not only money. It break trust in creative field. People start think copying is normal. Originality lose value. Students also learn to copy without respect for knowledge. It will be deserter indeed when copyright will not be protected. Businesses lose name when they steal idea. Consumer also get low quality pirated content. The whole progress of society become slow.

Some countries are very strict about copyright. US has strong law like DMCA. It allow creator to remove their work from illegal site. EU also give high protection to creators. Japan, South Korea and Australia punish piracy hard. In India and Bangladesh laws exist but not strong in practice. Pirated CD and online copies are still very common. Tech companies also take step. YouTube use Content ID to catch songs or videos uploaded without rights. Facebook and Instagram also remove content after report. Streaming sites like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Spotify give cheap option. Many people use them instead of piracy. But illegal sharing still not stop.

Another matter is lack of education. Many do not know the rule of copyright. Students copy from book or internet without credit. This is common in many developing countries. People download films without think. Awareness programs are needed in school and office. Knowledge must spread about respecting copyright. Copyright infringement is serious issue. So, steemit users must maintain them otherwise its impact will go to steem blockchain as well. Be creative while making content in steemit because creativity is the base of human progress.
