HOW TO MEASURE THE INDUCTANCE OF THE INDUCTOR USING DIGITAL LCR METER
Hello steemians I’m here again @calmabryanree27 in tutorials.
Today, I am going to give an information on how to measure the value of an inductance using digital LCR meter.
Objective:
- To know how to measure the inductance of an inductor.
Materials:
- Digital LCR Meter
- Inductors
- Breadboard
Key Terms:
1.The Digital LCR Meter
Definition: It is an electrical measuring device that measures the value of impedance, resistance, inductance and capacitance.
See attached photo below
2.Inductor
Definition: It is an electrical passive element that plays special rule and function in a certain circuit. The inductor stores energy in the form of magnetic field and most of electronic device functions properly with the help of an inductor. The values of this inductor must be determined before using it in a certain circuit.
See attached photo below
So, measuring its values is very important most especially for inductors in which the values cannot be seen in its body or on the inductor itself.
Below are the step by step procedures on how to measure the inductance of an inductor.
Step 1: Place the Indcutor on the breadboard for the simplicity of the job.
See attached photo below
Step 2: Turn on the Digital LCR Meter by pressing the power button as below.
See attached photo below
Step 3: Set the LCR meter to Inductance mode by pressing the ZLCR button.
See attached photo below
Step 4: Connect the two test probes of LCR meter to the leg terminals of the first inductor (Note: Inductors do not have polarity). Then record the reading of the LCR meter.
See attached photo below
The reading of the LCR METER is 2.865 millihenry
Step 5: Connect the two test probes of LCR meter to the leg terminals of the second inductor (Note: Inductors do not have polarity). Then record the reading of the LCR meter.
See attached photo below
The reading is 2.634 millihenry
