Uber says it'll stop tracking riders after they're dropped off

So I was reading this article over on the Los Angeles Times and wanted to take exception to something in the article. 

The company never started collecting the information from users with iPhones and other iOS devices

I quit using Uber last year when the location permission on iOS changed from 'While Using' to 'Always'. For giggles I re-download the the app (last updated Aug 21, 2017) to see what the current permissions asked for. 

Allow "Uber" to access your location even when you are not using the app? For improved pickups and dropoffs, customer support, and safety, Uber collects your location (i) when the app is open and (ii) from the time of trip request through five minutes after he trip ends. I'm no expert but it sounds like they're collecting information on iOS.
