ULOG #058: When Trying isn't Enough (edited/photos added)
Couldn't Make it to the Children's Lit Reading Session
After postponing the activity several times, today Yeni Gonzalez was going to have that follow-up to the reading activities we have collaborated on, and which I mentioned in this post: https://steemit.com/ulog/@hlezama/ulog-051-or-haciendole-seguimiento-a-lectura-de-libros-infantiles-a-ninos-pobres-en-cumana

Yeni has done a wonderful job with the people of that community and she managed to put together different teams to provide different services to the kids:
Combing, washing and drying of hair
Tables with used clothes to give away
Storytelling (I was supposed to take care of this part)
Poppets
and
Snacks
Yeni had told me she wanted to have more things this time, including donations of clothes for the kid of the barrio. I asked my youngest daughter to collect whatever outgrown-but-in-good-condition clothes she had and she put together a whole bag to give away.
I had selected some books to read for today, but I just could not make it. Public transportation crisis and not having cash to pay for a taxi made it impossible for me make it to the activity. Even though I left home 1 1/2 hours before the time of the event, there were few buses on the road and a lot of people fighting on the bus stops. The distance was too big for me to cover it on foot, especially these days.
I am feeling the wear. I just can't walk from one corner of town to the next like I used to do months ago. It is very frustrating to be under so many limitations to do something that is ultimately for the good of others, especially children. I will let them have the clothes somehow. I'm sure we'll also be able to schedule some other reading sessions, but tireness is kicking in like an iron wall.
Hard times demand even harder resolve. When our "best" is not good enough is time to rethink what we are doing wrong and outdo the hurdles.
I'll update the post with some images if I get them in the next days.
UPDATE:
I just got some pictures from Yeni and it was incredible to amount of clothes they were able to collect for these people (not only the kids got something, also the parents).
Unfortunatelly, the girl who was going to make a puppet show could not make it either. We are arranging another meeting for next weekend.
Thanks for your visit

Hi @hlezama
The obstacles that you encounter in your daily life is really unbelievable. Such a simple thing to go from one place to another becomes a nightmare... It's really nice that you find the strength to even consider helping others. All my best wishes for a better life for your country.
Thanks for stpping by and commenting.
I guess helping others is the only way to keep our integrity amid such a corrupting crisis.
It's a trying time we're living. Even if we are not optimistic about the outcome we'd better show our best selves through it.
It's true my dear @achim03. It getting harder and harder to live here.
I really hope everything will be better in your end. But I really love your initiative. Keep on going and you will be truly Blessed. May you have a great day ahead!
Thank you. Most appreciated
Greetings @hlezama
The situation in Venezuela every day is hitting us more. Every day is harder. We hope to get out of this bad situation soon.Yep. It's like being a flyweight fighting a heavy weight
You will have to organize your days of help in locations that are more affordable to your area of residence.
This country situation is leading us to change habits. We have to turn it around and move on.Yes, we definitely cannot commit to assisting commmunities that are too far from our residence. That's the bottomline. In this particular case, it was a sort spontaneous thing that was born from Yeni's initiative in El Peñón, where she lives and because she had everythign organized and the community was really in need of any kind of assistance, we decided that we'd use it as a pilot project. But under these exceptional circumstances, we just can't plan like that. Way too many obstacles.

Sorry I have been hard to find. I rarely stay on discord for too long. Since we have limited internet connection, I usually use whatever time I have to post, vote, and comment.
But, I usually get notification from Ginabot if i get a DM on Discord.
I checked the post about the contest. It looks fun, I may have my dogs and cat do the water-tasting :)

It is good to know that there are still Venezuelans who maintain our integrity in the face of this terrible situation. It is a nice job that you do, do not stop doing it, even if it is less often ...
I wonder if what we are experiencing is denial. Could it be that one day, things will be fixed? In 1923, after inflation wiped out the German currency, it gave rise to a character who caused the Second World War.
I suppose extreme situations will create extreme things. Historically speaking, of course.
Thanks.
Whatever possitive thing that still works in our country is there because there are still people doing exceptional things, while others do exceptional efforts to keep the negative devouring what's left.
I also recur to history for parallels that can help me understand what happend and what can happen next. I believe a darker chapter will come before we are reborn as a culture.
Our society needs some cleansing, otherwise it will a waste of time and resources
Interesting way of thinking. I like it. We are not the only ones who suffer in the world. And well, if it's our turn, it's our turn. It's our karma!
The good news is, we're not alone. Thank God there are many people who help us by giving us a hand.
#we-are-not-alone
Your exhaustion touches my heart and makes me sad.............for you, your family, your community, your country.
I sincerely pray for you to be lifted up and given the peace that only the Creator of it all can give.
(We have had our water turned back oh after many days without it. Electricity is on at the moment, thank God.)
Thanks, @justjoy.
I just got some pictures from the event and it was such a joy to see all they did that day (see update).
Hopefully, we'll be able to do give them the reading and puppets next weekend (the puppeteer could not make it either).
