Apple detects a battery failure of some 15-inch MacBook Pro Retina
Apple has just issued a warning to all owners of a MacBook Pro with 15-inch Retina display purchased between September 2015 and February 2017. According to the company, some units are being affected by a battery failure that causes that "it can overheat and suppose a risk for the security before a possible fire".
Apple is not giving a specific figure of the affected units, only limited to mentioning that it is a "limited number". All those who own a 15-inch MacBook Pro Retina of the previous generation, should check if their laptop is affected and go as soon as possible to an Apple Store to have them replaced at no additional cost.
Apple asks that they stop using the laptop as soon as possible
According to the company, the main affected model is the MacBook Pro Retina mid-2015. And for this, Apple has opened a special support website where we can enter the serial number of our laptop and know if it is among the affected units.
In case our MacBook Pro appears to be affected by the battery failure, Apple asks to stop using it as soon as possible and take it to an Apple Store or an authorized service center, where the battery will be changed at no additional cost.
The bad news is that Apple estimates that the battery change will take between one and two weeks, so we must consider this time without a computer. On the other hand, Apple did not give details of what is causing this overheating and why it is not affecting the 13-inch MacBook Pro.
This removal of the shelves is the second serious problem facing the MacBook Pro after the problem with the keyboards, which in some cases had to be repaired, although in that case it did not pose a security risk as in this case.
