I'd like to nominate this science competition being run by @suesa , it's pretty awesome!
In addition, I'd like to nominate my entry in it, a blog post about the miasmic theory of disease that dominated scientific thought before the germ theory of disease was developed.
This post was so good that it earned $250 in upvotes already including one for probably half of that by @blocktrades and now I am thinking about having my own contest like this :) Given that you shared this three days ago, I do not know if the votes were like this when you shared or not! In upvotable posts, we try to especially help authors build a following that are doing amazing work on the Steemit generally from outside the trending page because we all already probably check this page for ourselves.

Rich steemians with huge steempower have advantage again. Upvoting themselves and winning all the time. Not a bad post but it has already more than 200 sbd upvotes. So why not post it here to make it even more money while some new awesome users with no money stuck in the bottom unnoticed. I noticed less good posts in this upvotable. Maybe they gave up. Do you wish that they leave steemit? Please call Albert back. Jerry this is out of control. I think you can't handle so much work. It's to much for one person. You can't trust upvotes cuz they are not balanced. You won't even notice bottom posts with 0 worth upvotes.
I'm certainly not a rich steemian, and while the creator of the science post is decently well off, I posted it because it's an excellent community effort designed to both get more steem in the hands of poor users and to encourage more high quality posts.

No investigation necessary. You're right. We actually are connected. We're part of a really great Discord group called The Unmentionables. We are all about trying to get our members' content promoted across the platform, and that includes in high profile posts like this one. If you're interested, come check it out.

That's nice but here this is not fair to others. Please don't take advantage of your connections. I didn't submit but i checked all posts in 3 or 4 upvotables and i'm really dissapointed because many took advantage from their steempower to win. I tried to warn jerrybanfield but he seems to not have much interest to spend much time for this.
I would argue that Steemit is all about connections.
You seem new here, and it doesn't look like you've done an intro post yet. Check out the Steemit Etiquette Guide There are a lot of great tips on how to build a successful account there. Creating great content and engaging others on their posts is a big part of being successful here. Our community isn't about trying to be unfair or game the system. Our community is about supporting our members, no matter how big or small and encouraging them to be great. We hope you'll join us if you're interested!

This is excuse for abusing steemit, upvoting and commenting to take advantage and win rewards. Connections are not meant for abuse.
You two are arguing past each other.
You are saying "everything should be 100% merit", which is great in theory, but you are living in a fantasy world.
He is saying "humans are social creatures, social (ie Reach) * merit = rewards."
You will never force the world to make it Merit = Rewards. You must give up and adapt or forever be unsatisfied and at odds with your fellow man.
i think the quality of the posts will always win out..
i think its a bit harsh to call this abuse.. i do agree that this is really more like great co support.. UNLESS their post was not good,, but it was!
Investigating your account, you don't actually seem to blog. At all. So I'm kinda curious what your stake is.
Whereas I actually do my best to create quality content and promote quality content created by other people.

I actually plan on going into science education, so that's a high compliment for me to recieve!
Just make science interesting and the kids will follow you anywhere! My son loves science, it's his absolute favorite subject at 10 years old.
He sounds like a pretty cool kid!
