Utopian: NOW Pays Moderators in STEEM Power! Profit By Assuring QualitysteemCreated with Sketch.

in #utopian-io7 years ago (edited)

Utopian.io is the only platform rewarding Open Source contributions and it is doing that with Steem! Utopian became very popular once big Steem Whales delegated over 400K to the project to support Open Source initiatives and to get a whopping 20% profit from every single contribution on the platform. You can also become a delegator. Learn how.

Many contributions are being submitted every day and I have not enough time to review the quality. I have to keep developing the platform and do marketing. Utopian must assure the quality of each contribution before being shown in the Utopian feed. This is why I have just created a way to incentivise moderation on the platform and to share profits with the Utopian Moderators.

Now Also Moderators Get Their Piece of The Cake!

I have just released a new amazing feature that will allow everyone with a reputation score equal or higher than 50 to review contributions inside Utopian and allow them in the Utopian feed in exchange for a whopping 5% of all the author rewards generated on the platform based on how many contributions each moderator have reviewed.

How To Become a Moderator

If you have a reputation equal or higher than 50, login in https://utopian.io. On the left menu you will see the item "Review", from there you can see all the contributions that still need to be reviewed or just Go here. Then you just have to review them and help the user in case anything is wrong. Once a contribution has been reviewed, click on verify and you will immediately be part of the Utopian Moderators and start earning Steem Power AUTOMATICALLY.

The contributions you see there are already stored in the blockchain but they are not being voted by @utopian-io and won't show up in the main Utopian feed. This is to ensure no spam is entering the platform and that each contribution gets what really deserves.

Contributions Must Follow The Utopian Standards. READ CAREFULLY

As a moderator your job is to make sure contributions meet the quality standards. Here you have a draft that you have to read to understand the quality standards. https://utopian.io/rules

If a contribution does not meet the quality standards you have to help the user editing the contribution by chatting via the comments. If the contribution is spammy or really makes no sense, just leave it unverified and after a week will disappear.

You can check how to do your moderation job also by looking at the contributions I did not accept in the feed https://utopian.io/all/review. Check this one for example.

You will see I have submitted comments where the contribution is not meeting the quality standards. If you are not going to accept a contribution you always have to write the reason so that the user can actually understand what's doing wrong. You really have to read and understand the rules https://utopian.io/rules in order to help new contributors or you may end up being removed from the Utopian Moderators.

How do You Get Rewarded?

Utopian.io uses a special algorithm that takes advantage of the beneficiaries system provided by Steem. Utopian calculates how much the platform has generated in Steem Power, how much Moderators and Sponsors have to receive from the delegated percentage (20% for Sponsors, 5% for Moderators) and how much you should gain based on how many contributions you have verified or based on the delegated power if you are also a Sponsor. Each time a new contribution is submitted and verified, beneficiaries get added and will automatically receive their profits when the rewards will be payed out by Steem (after a week). Everyone in Utopian receives Steem Power.

So Now Utopian Removes 25% From the Author Rewards?

NO

The Utopian Sponsors have 20% of the author rewards reserved. Utopian Moderators have 5% reserved. So you may think Utopian is removing 25% from the author rewards. Well...no. The algorithm works in a way so that the portion taken from the author fluctuates and sometimes can be 20%, some other times 22% but also 15% and so on (never over 25%). This is possible because Utopian tracks everything and assigns profits to the beneficiaries based on how much they should gain and on how much they already got.

That means, if a contribution gets super high rewards, you could also get more than what you deserve. Utopian will stop giving you rewards until you will be allowed to receive them again, based on new gains you should have accumulated.

All the code behind Utopian is Open Source. https//github.com/utopian-io

The Process is Transparent

You can see how much Utopian is generating and how much you should get in the dedicated Sponsors and Moderators sections:

Utopian does not get a cent. All the power Utopian has is given by the Sponsors.
I don't get a cent. The only way I have to profit is by either contributing to Open Source projects, delegate power to Utopian or moderating the contributions.

Utopian is a New, Shared and Meritocratic Economy.

If you are a Bad Moderator

If you are a bad moderator and allowing bad contributions into the main feed, you will be permanently removed from the moderators and stop earning profits immediately. Always double check the rules before pushing a contribution to the Utopian main feed https://utopian.io/rules

Removed Minimum Delegation

On a side note I have removed the minimum delegation you can give to Utopian if you want to be a sponsor. If your delegation is very small you may end up having 0 profits, but still you may want to help the Open Source world and to be credited by Utopian on promotional activities.

Awesome @elear, but I have some questions, are the rewards only paid out based on the number of contributions that are verified? If so that will incentivize reviewers to just verify as many as possible and isn't worth their time to comment on ones that should not be verified.

Maybe there should be a way for reviewers to mark an item as "reviewed" but not verified so they can get credit for work preventing posts that don't follow the rules.

Also it would help me to see some more examples of accepted and not-accepted submissions. I was taking a look through some of them and I wasn't sure which way to go or how much of a stickler for the rules I should be.

For example on this one: https://utopian.io/utopian-io/@ivysrono/update-zh-cn-for-busy I cited that it didn't follow the "Contributions MUST BE Informative and Narrative" rule. Let me know if you agree with that or not.

Either way this is a great change, and great to have a moderation system. Can't believe how fast you're making updates, seems like there is something new every day!

are the rewards only paid out based on the number of contributions that are verified?

Yes exactly. That's why you can be removed if you are a bad moderator and never be able to join the moderators again. This will be a natural selection process. Also if I see 50 reputation is too low, this will be increased.

Maybe there should be a way for reviewers to mark an item as "reviewed" but not verified so they can get credit for work preventing posts that don't follow the rules.

While you can't put a like on the post until the post is verified, you can put it on the comments. So the more the moderator is helpful the more likes he will get on his comments.

Right! I will do this.

You did a GREAT job

Did not stop working for 3 days in a row now :D

Thanks for the super-vote! One more quick suggestion, it would be great to add a way to filter submissions that have not been commented on yet by a moderator. Now I have to go into each one and check if you have already commented first.

Go take a break, have a few drinks! You've literally earned it!

@yabapmatt do me a favour. Write an idea contribution for Utopian in Utopian about all these suggestions. I think they are great and they deserve a post and a vote. Also will be easier for me to go through them once I will start developing them.

OMG DUH! I'm literally sitting here looking at feature suggestions on Utopian and the thought never crossed my mind to submit these ideas there as well...maybe i'm the one who needs a break!

ahaah right @yabapmatt. Do that please. I would be really happy

Submitted! Noticed I can't approve my own contribution, good thinking there :-)

Right :D @yabapmatt

@utopian-io has just super-voted this comment at 5%.

@yabapmatt thanks for using https://utopian.io to contribute to the Open Source projects..

Voting this comment will help @utopian-io growing its power so to incentivise more contributions to Open Source projects.

This would be great contribution to the growth of steemit

This is awesome! Definitely worth a look. Thanks for this amazing work :)

You should add what is meant by contributins, or at least provide a link for it.

Always assume your reader does not now your world changing, super big, incredibly cool Megaproject, how unbelievable that may seem to you ;)

Agreed! I would love some elaboration on the points you mention.

There should be something in it for the minnows like me also.
The minimum steem power to delegate is 100, meaning the person who has less steem power cannot take part in @utopian.io
Moreover the steem users who delegate the minimum steem power will get negligible benefits from it.
The rewards should be in greater percentage for the minnows because it will help whales become like giant whales and the minnows will remain minnows.
What are your views? @elear

"minimum steem power to delegate is 100"

The post notes that has been removed.

Edit: Forget it.

Looks interesting I will check it out.

Nice post, I will support utopian-io, upvote

How to login in utopian, why it's asking me to create an other account when I try to login with my steemit account ?

Hello @clixmoney I don't think it is asking for that. You have to use either your password or active key to login. Utopian uses SteemConnect. The same tool used by Busy.org and maintained by Steem

now it's saying that the key is wrong, I don't want to use my password, can I use the posting key ?

Maybe you are using the wrong active key. In your wallet - permissions, you must click on Login to show, on the right of the active key and use the one that shows up once you login or use your password. Utopian and Busy, they don't store your credentials.

I used both of them, the first posting key that is shown directly and the private one, no one is working

I am not sure @clixmoney then. @fabien do you have a suggestion what may be wrong here?

I hope moderators will check the uniqueness and won't support duplicite contributions.

Yes they will ! @espoem ! I am making sure to build a good team :)

Then I'm looking forward to seeing a good content. I start liking this whole idea of utopian more and more.
