What to do in case of constipation on vacation?
Yet the holidays could be so beautiful: you leave your everyday life behind you, discover new countries and new cultures and enjoy many new specialties. But when the intestine is constipated, the situation can easily become unpleasant. What really helps in constipation when traveling?
Our intestines are extremely sensitive: any small change can make them temporarily lose their balance. Unusual foods, the effect of time zone and climate change are among the main causes of constipation cases among travelers. The following tips can help you cope with digestive disorders.
Prevention
If you find yourself having to go to the toilet, react immediately. In this way, train the intestine to free itself regularly. If you repress the urge to go to the bathroom, you favor constipation. The idea is to not get distracted by reading the newspaper or cell phone while you are in the bathroom but instead, concentrate on emptying the intestine.
Feed
Privileged even on holiday a diet rich in fiber. The fibers contained in foods are not only very satisfying but also promote healthy digestion, as they keep the feces soft. Consume regularly whole foods, nuts, and seeds as well as fruits and vegetables that can be peeled. Kiwi, dried figs and prunes are ideal: these fruits have a slightly laxative effect.
Liquids
Drink up to two liters a day. When the body is lacking in fluids, it takes away all the water that is possible in the feces to keep the main body functions active. Tip: drink a glass of water that is not too cold and without carbon dioxide before meals to stimulate the intestinal muscles.
Movement
Take a walk after a meal. Physical movement strengthens the abdominal muscles and restores momentum to digestion. In the case of cramps, a light abdominal massage is useful to relax the intestine. For this purpose, place your right hand on the abdomen and pass it in circular motions, clockwise, over the stomach.
Laxatives
If all of these tips do not give the desired effect, it is permissible to take temporarily mild laxatives. Ask your doctor for a suitable remedy or get advice from your pharmacist.
