Regardless of what you're curious about, this crash-course in vaginal knowledge is sure to answer some of your top queries.

Given the role it plays in daily functioning, sex, and babymaking, it is a body part worth understanding whether you have one or not.

The vagina is a very special place and here are a few interesting things about it.

Part 5:

#25. The pH (acid/base balance) of the vagina is around 4, which is the same pH as wine, tomatoes, and beer. Some things that change the pH of the vagina are vaginal infections, douching, soap, and exposure to semen.

#26. Not all women are born with hymens and for those who do have hymens, they range in thickness and the amount of coverage. What this means: you cannot actually tell if someone is a virgin or not by doing a hymen check.

#27. Discharge is made up of secretions from the vagina that help clean and moisten it. This stuff can change a lot over a woman's monthly cycle from being thick and white (the beginning of the cycle) to clear and stretchy (ovulation time) or watery (various times in the cycle). Discharge can be slightly brown if the vagina is cleaning up after a period. If it's yellow, green, or itchy, those can be signs of infection.

#28. Vaginal discharge does not contain any waste products. Instead it contains the following: fluid that seeps through the walls of the vagina, cervical mucus, uterine and tubal fluid, secretions from glands in the vulva, oil and sweat from vulvar glands, old cells from the walls of the vagina, and healthy bacteria. Vaginal discharge contains mostly salt water, mucus, and cells.

#29. As the name implies, penis captivus occurs when a man's penis gets "stuck" in a woman's vagina. This is extremely rare in humans (more common in some animals) and usually lasts only a few seconds. But it can happen. It's believed this phenomena may be caused by contractions of a woman's muscles during orgasm. The vagina is lined with muscular ridges and when some women orgasm these contract, which can presumably cause them to clamp down as well.

#30. Facts about the menstrual cycle could fill an article all it's own but here are some good basics to know. Most women have their period once a month for about three to seven days. During this time, their uterus contracts (often painfully) to shed the lining it had built up in case the woman got pregnant. An important note: women who have short cycles (around 21 to 24 days) have a greater chance of getting pregnant during their period than long cycle women. Sperm can live up to 5 days in the uterus, so women with short cycles (who ovulate about 4 to 5 days after their period) could potentially become pregnant if they had sex at the end of their time of the month.
