She waited for him at the place where they had met months earlier, while strolling along the beach full of life and the vibrant colors of summer’s vitality.

On that occasion, he was fishing in a small boat, wearing only shorts, revealing more than decency allowed. Even so, she could not take her eyes off him, and he felt them, because at that moment he turned and their gazes met.

The next morning, during her usual walk along the beach, he was waiting for her dressed in his best white linen suit and a Panama hat. She lost her breath: she had never before spoken to a man who was not part of her family.

That first encounter was followed by daily walks throughout the summer. Without a doubt, she was in love, and he was so handsome and gallant that, when the day came when he took her in his boat to the other side of the river, she did not resist.

There they merged into a single body, far from curious eyes, lying on the white sand. Weeks had passed since then, and she had not seen her beloved again, though she waited for him every day, sitting in the boat that marked her destiny, while in her womb she carried the fruit of that day.
